Position Purpose: /
  • The Nurse Practitioner Candidate [NPC)] over a 2 year period of internship will work towards attaining the successful clinical and academic components under the new Nurse Practitioner Standards Framework for Practice that will enable them to be assessed and accredited as an Older Persons Nurse Practitioner. This will require the candidate to meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia [NMBA] Nurse practitioner standards for practice (2014) in order to be eligible to apply forendorsement.
  • During the candidature period the NPC will be required to complete a board approved Master of Nursing-Nurse Practitioner Program for eligibility to register with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority [AHPRA]. Candidates will undertake clinical rotations across areas that have been deemed appropriate by the clinical nurse practitioner steering committee and approved by the assigned professional mentors. Clinical rotations across these areas will allow the candidate to developadvanced clinical nursing, educational, research and leadership skills in the area of extended practice that is specific to the care of older people.
  • The NPC will participate in inter-professional education, teamwork and practicein order to facilitate an effectiveresident focused wellness service that aligns with the Mercy Health overall objectivesand the Commonwealth and State policies that pertain to Residential Care and Nurse Practitioner standards for practice.

Qualifications: /
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse Division 1 with AHPRA
Desired: Strong current clinical background in acute care, demonstrated leadership skills and an ability to participate in a high level academic program and work collaboratively with advanced practitioners.
