Mercutio’s Confession: Deleted Scene

Develop a thematic thesis statement, and convey this truth by writing a “deleted scene” wherein which Mercutio confesses how he feels about Romeo’s fickle nature. This scene should express a theme you think Shakespeare is sending to his audience through the character(s) of Mercutio and/or Romeo.

This project requires you to:

1.  Choose a topic from Romeo and Juliet

2.  Write out a theme based off your chosen topic

3.  Write out a thematic thesis statement

4.  Convey the theme you think Shakespeare is sending to his audience through Mercutio and/or Romeo through a scripted scene that includes Mercutio (and another character if you are working with a partner)

5.  Cite and write out at least three pieces of textual evidence that back up your script and prove your thematic thesis statement

Script Style/Formatting Requirements

1.  A title page that includes both of your names, the title of your scene, and when this scene would occur

2.  A second page that states your topic, theme, and thematic thesis statement.

3.  A third page that uses three different pieces of textual evidence to back up your thesis statement.

4.  Your script should fit the format of the example script attached.

a.  Character names, when mentioned in stage directions or in front of lines, must be in all caps

b.  All stage directions should be in italics

c.  Character names must proceed all lines

d.  Before the scene starts, you should write the setting of the scene in italics
