Mentors for Success Program Information

●Who?

○Caring adult professionals over the age of 18, who have a desire to develop a relationship with an “at-risk” youth and possess strong character and leadership skills.

○At-risk youth ages 8-15 who have the desire to commit to the program.

●What?

○“Mentors for Success” is a high impact volunteer experience offered at Brigade Boys & Girls Club. It provides an opportunity for adults to develop a positive relationship with an at-risk youth in order to offer support and guidance as these youth grow socially, emotionally, physically and academically. Mentors offer support by listening, giving advice, helping with school work, and serving as a positive role model. These relationships are built on trust and understanding and provide youth with a sense of belonging, usefulness, power, and influence.

○Mentors are expected to commit to 1 year with evaluation after 6 months.

○Mentors will also be expected to evaluate their Mentees on a bi-monthly basis.

●Why?

○Youth in Wilmington need positive adult role models who understand them and care about their well-being. Often our kids do not receive the attention they need at school or at home, this program aims to change that. We want all of our kids to know that they are cared for and that their success is important.

●How?

○Mentors will come in on their designated day after checking in with the Mentor Coordinator to make sure their mentee is present. They will usually begin by checking in on academic progress, after this they are free to engage in any fun and safe activity they want for the day!
