Mental Health Counselor for Families (Cantonese Speaking)

DEADLINE: Until filled

STARTING DATE: ASAP

HOURS: 100% FTE

JOB CONTROL: Prevention Services Manager

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  Provide Psycho-social consultation to clients and conduct in-home mental health assessments and crisis prevention and interventions.

2.  Perform a variety of in-home wellness activities and provide diagnostics, treatment plans and case management services to clients.

3.  Strategize community outreach and conduct psycho-educational trainings to raise awareness of mental health issues in families and to reduce the stigma of mental health illness.

4.  Administer pre and post tests for data collections and program evaluation.

5.  With solicited input from community members, consumers and family members, strategize and conduct community outreach and presentations to publicize available services and to reduce the stigma of mental illnesses in the API communities.

6.  Collaborate with county departments, community agencies and primary care clinics in coordinating referrals and ensuring continuity of care for clients.

7.  Provide interpretation services and cultural consultation to other providers as necessary.

8.  Maintain timely and accurate documentation of outreach & engagement activities; screening, referral and all client service contacts in accordance with agency, county, state guidelines , insure quality assurance standards are met.

9.  Meet the monthly productivity standard of required service contacts.

10.  Participate in agency committees to improve service delivery and assist in developing and implementing treatment programs as assigned.

11.  Participate in staff meetings, trainings, peer review meetings and supervision sessions.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.  Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology from an accredited college or university

2.  Bilingual and bicultural in Cantonese required. Additional language skills and/or active involvement in API communities a plus

3.  Two years of experience in providing intake, assessment, treatment and case management services for severely mentally ill and dual diagnoses clients

4.  Demonstrated competency in DSMIV, crisis stabilization and brief treatment with severely mentally ill, dual diagnoses clients

5.  Demonstrated working knowledge of mental health service system and community resources in Alameda County

6.  Ability to maintain effective and professional working relationships with clients, community members and providers; embrace recovery principles of working with the mentally ill.

7.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; organize and make presentation at public events.

8.  Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and adhere to the legal and ethical standards of social work field

9.  Valid California Driver’s license, auto insurance with bodily injury liability limit of at least $100,000/300,000 and access to use of an automobile

10.  Support and implement the mission, vision and values of Asian Community Mental Health Services.
