MENGEL’S ‘MINDERS: 10/15/12

  1. GREAT JOB AT THE OJR CAVALCADE: The 42nd annual OJR Cavalcade of Bands is now behind us and it was a another great one! Thanks to Mr. Mark Centanni and Mrs. Chris Ficca for coordinating the event and for their months of planning and preparation. Thanks to all band parents who worked in all of the various capacities to make the show run smoothly and thanks to all OJR band members who volunteered as hosts, program sales, admission greeters, etc. We have the absolute best cavalcade of any school and it’s because of the hard work and dedication from all of you.
  1. CHEESECAKE FUNDRAISER SUCCESSFUL: The cheesecakes were delivered this past Thursday night. Thanks to OJR band parent Cindy Martorana for once again organizing this important annual fundraiser for our band.
  1. BAND PLAYING TESTS: Annual fall playing tests for instrumentalists are occurring this week. The playing tests are to make sure that everyone knows their music and they also give me a chance to give individual help where needed. Everyone in the band (regardless of whether or not you are in band class) should sign up for a time and complete a playing test. Part of your marking period grade will be based on your playing test. You should know all of the music in the show with appropriate dynamics and places to take a breath between musical phrases.
  1. SEASON WILL BE WINDING DOWN SOON: We only have four weeks to go until championships in Hershey (on Sunday, Nov. 11th) so the season will begin to wind down soon. Keep up your level of energy and enthusiasm and please do everything possible to be at all rehearsals for the next four weeks. When even a small handful of folks are absent from practice it is so difficult to try and clean our show. As a group we have such incredible potential this year along with the most amazing show ever, but we will not fully realize that potential if we continue to have 5 to 10 people missing from practice every time.
  1. UPCOMING EVENTS: Although our championships are in four weeks, this year we will still have several events to plan for afterwards (mark your calendars):
  • Nov. 15thMeet the Band Night
  • Nov. 22ndThanksgiving Day Football Game
  • Nov. 29thMarching Band Banquet
  • Nov. 30thWest Chester Christmas Parade
  1. PARENTS FEEL FREE TO CHEER LOUDLY!!!: Parents, feel free to cheer loudly for us at our remaining competitions. We definitely need your support and our band always performs better when we can see, hear, and feel that fantastic support from our OJR parent cheering section!
