Men’s Soccer: Santa Ana Seeded Second In Southern California Regional; Receives First-Round Bye

SANTA ANA, CA – On Tuesday (November 22), head coach Jose Vasquez and the Santa Ana Collegemen's soccer team will begin defense of its 2004 California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics Men's Soccer Championship when its hostseitherseventh-seededSan Diego City College(17-3) or 10th-seededLong Beach City College(10-10-4). The Dons (20-2-1), who won their unprecedented 12th consecutive Orange Empire Conference (OEC) men's soccer title with an 11-2-1 record, were seeded second when the 2005 Southern California Men's Soccer Regional pairings were released earlier today (Thursday, November 17) and will receive a first round bye. Mt. San Antonio College (20-2-2), who lost to Santa Ana, 5-3, back on September 5 (Labor Day), earned the regional's top ranking and will face either eighth-seededRioHondoCollege(15-6-3) or ninth-seededCerritosCollege(12-7-5) in its regional semifinal match on Tuesday.

Santa Ana and Mt.San Antonio were two of the four teams receiving first-round byes in the 2005 Southern California Regional Men's Soccer Championships along withthird-seededIrvineValleyCollege(13-4-3) andLos AngelesHarborCollege(16-3-5). Eight teams will open up regional action this Saturday, November 19 when fifth-seededGolden West College(14-4-3) hosts 12th-seededLos Angeles Mission College(9-7-4), sixth-seededOrange Coast College(13-6-5) hosts 11th-seededEast Los Angeles College(9-7-8), seventh-seededSan Diego City College(17-3)hosts 10th-seededLong Beach CityCollege(10-10-4) and eighth-seededRio Hondo College(15-6-3)hosts ninth-seededCerritos College(12-7-5). In 2004, Santa Ana(19-0-4) won its record sixth California Community Collegesstatetitle with a 3-0 shutout over CerritosCollege in the finals of the 2004 Citi California Community Colleges Commission on Athletics Men's Soccer Championship held on Sunday, December 5 at OxnardCollege.Two weeks later the Dons won their second National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national title edging out Herkimer County College (NY), who won the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national title, for the top spot.
