Over the past quarter we have said a warm welcome to Sam Marshall who is the new Befriending Manager and also to Leila Ward who joins as a Memory Support Worker for the Wooburn Green area which also includes Beaconsfield, Bourne End, Hazlemere, Marlow & Stokenchurch. We have also said farewell to Rebecca Ashwell.

MEMORY WALK – WALK FOR A WORLD WITHOUT DEMENTIA

Why not take part in the Organise your Own Memory Walk at Wendover Woods, near Halton, HP22 5NF on Sunday, 25th September?

Registration is from 10am and walkers will set off at 11am after a fun warm-up session. All walks are sign-posted and you can choose between 1k, 3k or 5k. Well behaved dogs are welcome too!

MEMORY AND DEMENTIA INFORMATION SESSIONS

The next set of free Dementia Information Sessions are taking place in Meeting room 1 at the Healthy Living Centre, Walton Court Shopping Centre, Hannon Road, Aylesbury, Bucks, HP21 8JT starting on Thursday November 3rd and running for 6 consecutive weeks. The sessions are for people in the early stages and will last for approximately 2 hours each week. The workshop will enable those that attend to discuss and learn about many aspects of living well with dementia in order that they feel empowered to make decisions and also plan for their future and that of their family. It is also an opportunity to meet with others and gain ongoing peer support.

Join up to a new national service connecting you to the latest dementia research.

Vital studies into early diagnosis, prevention and new treatments for dementia are making progress – that’s why more volunteers are needed.

‘Join dementia research’ is a new service which allows people to register their interest in national dementia research. It is funded by the Department of Health and delivered in partnership with National Institute of Health Research, Alzheimer’s Research UK & Alzheimer’s Society. It helps people with dementia, their carers or anyone interested in dementia research to be matched to studies.

You can register either online at 0300 222 1122 or by post. Once registered, further information will be provided and you can then decide whether to take part or not.

A workshop organised by Carers Bucks which will look at the support available when caring for someone with dementia.It will also look at understanding dementia and how this can affect people, helping carers better understand the meaning behind uncharacteristic behaviour, look at situations difficult to deal with and ways of helping to deal with these. MEMORY SUPPORT SERVICE

The service offers one-to-one support from a Memory Support Workerfor individuals and their carers from their initial concerns about memory loss, through diagnosis, to planning for the future. For those with a diagnosis, support will focus on planning for the future to enable the person to live well at home, as well as signposting to support services for the person caring for them.
