MEMORANDUM OFUNDERSTANDING

betweenthe

CaliforniaCommunityCollegesChancellor’sOfficeandFortValleyStateUniversity

Thisagreementiseffectiveasoffall2017betweenFortValleyStateUniversityanindependent,non-profit,publicbenefitcorporation(University),whoseaddressis1005StateUniversityDr.,Fort Valley, GA 31030, and the CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGES CHANCELLOR’SOFFICE

(CCCCO),whoseaddressis1102QStreet,Suite4554.Sacramento,CA95811.

TheFortValleyStateUniversityentersintothisagreement with thesystemwideChancellor’sOfficefor112CaliforniaCommunityCollegesand72CommunityCollegedistricts.ThepurposeofthisagreementistoensureacceptanceofpriorcourseworkandtofacilitatethetransferofCaliforniaCommunityCollege(CCC)studentswhohavecompletedeitherofthefollowing:

1.AnAssociateDegreeAwardedbyaCaliforniaCommunityCollegewithaminimumcumulativegradepointaverage(GPA)of2.5orhigher,thatmeetsanyoneofthefollowingrequirements:

a.ThedegreeisanAssociateinArtsforTransfer(AA-T)degreeoranAssociateinScienceforTransfer(AS-T)degree.ThesedegreesweredesignedtoprovideaclearpathwaytoaCaliforniaStateUniversitymajorandbaccalaureatedegreeandtheyrepresentstrongpreparationforupperdivisioncourseworkinarangeofmajors.

b.ThedegreeincludesthecompletionandcertificationofthelowerdivisionIntersegmentalGeneralEducationTransferCurriculum(IGETC)used byCaliforniaCommunityCollegestudentstoprepareto transferto theUniversityofCaliforniaandCaliforniaStateUniversity systems;or,

c.ThedegreeincludesthecompletionandcertificationofthelowerdivisionCaliforniaStateUniversityGeneralEducationBreadthpattern;or,

(OR)

2.Aminimumof30transferrablesemesterunitswithaminimumcumulativegradepointaverage(GPA)of2.5orhigher.

Inexchangeformeetingoneoftheaboveconditions,CCCtransferstudentswillbeafforded thefollowingopportunities:

I.GUARANTEEDADMISSION

CCCtransferstudentsawarded an AssociateDegreeasdefinedabovewillbeguaranteedadmissiontotheUniversityatjuniorstanding.StudentswillbemadeawarethatadditionalprerequisitesandgraduationrequirementsmayberequiredbyFortValleyStateUniversityforcertainmajors.Onlystudentswhoareingoodstandingat theirlast transferinstitution willbeconsidered.

CCCtransferstudentswithoutanAssociateDegreebutobtainingaminimum30transferrableunitsasdefined abovewillbeguaranteedadmission totheUniversity.

Ineitherinstance,studentswillbemadeawarethatadditionalprerequisitesandgraduationrequirementsmayberequiredbyFortValleyStateUniversityforcertainmajors.Onlystudentswhoarein goodstandingat theirlasttransferinstitutionwillbeconsidered.

II.TRANSFERABILITYOFCREDIT

ForCCCtransferstudentsawardedanAssociateDegreeFortValleyStateUniversitywillacceptaminimumof60semesterunits.ForCCCtransferstudentswithoutanAssociateDegreebutwithaminimumof30transferrableunits,FortValleyStateUniversitywillacceptaminimumof30semesterunits.

FortValleyStateUniversitywillacceptCCCcoursesdeemedtransferabletotheUniversityofCaliforniaandtheCaliforniaStateUniversitytowardsgeneraleducation,majorand/orelectivecredit.UnitsacceptedfortheCCCAssociateDegreethroughCLEP,DANTES,IB,AP,CreditbyExam,andACEwillbeapplicabletowardthe Bachelor’sdegreeFortValleyStateUniversityreservestheright toawardcreditformajorpreparationbased on University policy.

III.GENERALEDUCATIONREQUIREMENTS

FortValleyStateUniversityagreestoacceptthecompletionofthelowerdivisionCSUGeneralEducation-Breadthpattern(CSUGE),theIntersegmentalGeneralEducationTransferCurriculum(IGETC)pattern,oraCCCAA-TorAS-TthatincludeseitherCSUGEorIGETCinlieuofitsownlowerdivisiongeneraleducationrequirements.ForCCCtransferstudentsawardedanAssociateDegree,nomorethannineadditionalunitswillberequiredtofulfillUniversitygeneral educationrequirements.

IV.CATALOGRIGHTS

IfFortValleyStateUniversitymodifiesthedegreerequirementsorprerequisites,thestudentwillbeaccommodatedwithequivalentcourseworkandnotpenalizedintotalunitsrequiredfortheirBachelor’sdegree.

V.STUDENTADVISING

FortValleyStateUniversitywillprovidepre-transferadvisingtocommunitycollegestudentsthroughonline,onsite,and/ortelephoneadvising.TheUniversity’sOfficeoftheRegistrarwillmaintainMOUagreementswithcommunitycollegesonitswebsiteandwillinteractwithcommunitycollegeTransferCenterDirectors.Inaddition,facultyadvisingbydisciplinewillbeavailabletofuturetransferstudentspriortoandonceenrolledattheUniversity.Informationalmaterialsforpotentialtransferstudentswillbe availableatthecommunitycollegestofacilitatethetransferprocess.

FortValleyStateUniversitywillparticipateinaminimumofoneannual outreachactivitytoeducateandinformCaliforniaCommunityCollegestudentsandfacultyaboutFortValleyStateUniversity.

Activitiesmayincludethefollowing:

a.ParticipationinCaliforniatransferconferences,transferfairs,professionalconferences(e.g.,UmojaCommunity,WesternAssociationforCollegeAdmissionCounseling,etc.)andvisitstocommunitycollegestoeducateadministrators,counselors,faculty,staff,andstudentsaboutUniversityadmissionsrequirements,costs,etc.;

b.Provisionofonsiteadmissionsto eligibleCaliforniaCommunityCollegestudentsattransferconferences,transferfairs,UmojaCommunityconferencesandduringcollegevisits;and,

c.WorkwiththeCaliforniaCommunityCollegetransfercentersandtheUmojaCommunitytooutreachtoallstudents.AdditionaleffortswillbemadetoreachouttoScience,Technology,EngineeringandMathematics(STEM)majors.

VI.HOUSING

FortValleyStateUniversitywillprovidepriorityconsiderationfor campushousingduringthefirstyearifthehousingfeesarepaidbythehousingapplicationdeadline.

VII.SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

FortValleyStateUniversitywillseektodeveloptransfer scholarshipsfor incomingstudentswhohavea3.2orhighergradepointaverageandmeetallothercriteriaoftheUniversity,basedonavailablefunding.

VIII.DATA

Underthisagreement,FortValleyStateUniversitywillconductananalysisoftheCaliforniaCommunityCollegetransferstudentstodeterminetheirprogressandsuccess.Theanalysisshouldincludedescriptivesthatprofilethepopulationandprocessmeasures,suchascoursecompletionandtermpersistence,aswellascourseofstudy.Thesuccessoftransferstudentsismeasuredbyachievedoutcomesandincludesdegreesconferred,timetocompletion,andcontinuationtowardsanadvancededucation.Nolaterthan90daysaftertheconclusionofanacademicyear,FortValleyStateUniversityshallprovidetheCCCCOwithawrittensummaryoftheresultsoftheanalysis.

IX.MARKETINGCOMMUNICATION

TheCCCCOwillworkwithFortValleyStateUniversitytodevelopaninternalandexternalmarketingplantocommunicateandpublicizetheChancellor’ssupportofthisagreementtoallCCCcampuses.Disseminationmayincludeprintmedia,newsreleases,email,webinars,andsocialmediadistributionchannels.TheTransferandArticulationUnitwillassistinpromotingthisopportunitytoeachCCCandensurethatTransferCenterDirectorsunderstandthebenefitsoftheprogramforstudents.ProfessionalorganizationsandinitiativessuchastheUmojaCommunity,theWesternAssociationforCollegeAdmissionCounseling(WACAC),andthe CCCTransferCounselorWebSitegrantee,willbeencouragedtodisseminateinformationabouttheHBCUMOUagreements.

X.TERMSOFAGREEMENTANDSEVERABILITY

Thetermofthisagreementshallbeongoingcommencingonthedatefirstsetforthabove,providedthateitherpartymayterminatethisagreementuponwrittennotice,withtheterminationeffectiveatthestartofthefollowingacademicyear.Iftheagreementisterminated,allstudentsidentifiedonorbeforethedateofterminationwillretain theirtransferguaranteeandallother termsstatedintheagreement.

Thisagreementcontainstheentireagreementbetweenthepartiespertainingtothetransactionandmaynotbeamended,unlessinwritingandsignedbybothparties.
