MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FOR PHI ALPHA THETA
INTERNATIONAL HISTORY HONOR SOCIETY
Phi Alpha Theta is the international history honor society. The society publishes a journal, sponsors scholarship programs for its members, and provides recognition for students who have achieved excellent records in their history classes. The local chapter also provides a variety of social and intellectual activities for its members.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEMBERSHIP:
1) At least 12 completed history credits (Advanced Placement, CLEP, etc. credits do not count)
2) The cumulative grade point average in completed history courses must be at least a 3.1.
3) A 3.0 cumulative grade point average in ninety percent of the remaining non-history courses is also required.
***Transfer credit grades are counted in the Phi Alpha Theta average. Therefore a transcript listing your transfer grades must also be submitted.
For consideration for membership, the following must be compiled, attached and submitted by March 1st to Suzanne Bell, Undergraduate Program Assistant at 613 Herter Hall:
- Phi Alpha Theta application – Print clearly please
- $50 cash that will cover a lifetime membership, and a one-year subscription to The Historian.
- The History Department will provide you with the Phi Alpha Theta honor sash to wear at graduation.
- If your application is denied, you will be notified and the $50 will be refunded.
All new Phi Alpha Theta members’ names will appear in an upcoming issue of The Historian.
Once you are accepted, you will be notified by email. You will also be contacted with further information about the time and place for the initiation ceremony in which family is invited.
