Matters Arising:The Care Quality Commission (CQC) had revisited in January and all areas in the Practice are now reported as “Good” in all 5 key areas of enquiry. The PPG congratulated the doctors and staff on the outcome.

Ken Chrisp reported that having volunteered at the last PPG meeting to take people to and from the Health Centre transport had, to date, been requested on one occasion.

Staff Update: Dr Claudia Jones will retire in August 2017,

Dr Jonathan Arnoldleft in January

Dr Laura Armitage left in February

Dr Sarah Martin began in January

Dr Joanna Goldie-Brammer started in January

Dr Malliotakis started in February and will remain with the practice until June

As it has not so far been possible to recruit an additional practise nurse, the practice has employed some agency nurses recently. Sarah Williams and Juliette Powers continue in their posts.

Lucy Bailey (Health Care Assistant) is now working until 4 pm Monday – Thursday and 1pm on Friday.

Medical students will be coming to the practice for a week in October

Admin Update: Linda Gilder (Practice Manager) is retiring at the end of June.

A new Practice Manager is soon to be appointed.

Elizabeth Godfrey said that she would like to retire from her role as Chair of the PPG.

Dr Crawshaw’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) role:

Following Dr Julie Anderson’s retirement as Head of the Locality team, Dr Jonathan Crawshaw has now taken on the role of Locality Director for the CCG. (Practices from Abingdon, Wantage, Faringdon and Berinsfield). He is also to be lead doctor for the elderly within this group. This post will take up two days a week of Dr Crawshaw’s time and it is a three year post.

Neighbourhood Plan: Richard Pullen reported that 3,500 new homes are planned to be built within Berinsfield. The GPs were pleased with this news because they felt that it helped to secure the future of the Health Centre in Berinsfield.

Federation of Practices: As Berinsfield is now in a Federation of six medical practices, (four from Abingdon and Clifton Hampden)funding has been made available from the DOH to provide additional bookable appointments with a GP outside normal working hours. One of the six practices will provide additional appointments seven days a week. Berinsfield will now provide cover on two sessions per month.

Any Other Business:

Ken Chrisp asked if it was felt that the PPG was as effective as it should be? Dr Crawshaw reflected this back to the group! He said that the lease on the Practice was up for renewal. It was felt that the PPG had been effective (Attempt to maintain Podiatry and Physio Services in Berinsfield) but we still did not have a representative to attend SWOLF (South West Oxford Locality Forum)?

Day Centre: Sheila Croft informed the meeting that the Day Centre in Berinsfield has a position as “Organiser” available for 14 hours per week.

The meeting was reminded that prescriptions continue to take 48 hours to be processed on normal working days. But it will take longer over weekends and Bank holidays.

Elizabeth Godfrey, on behalf of the PPG, thanked Dr Claudia Jones and Linda Gilder for all their commitment and hard work for the Practice and hoped they would enjoy their retirement.

Next Meeting: Thursday 19th October at 8.00pm at Berinsfield Health Centre.
