All participants should make their own reservations directly with the Hotel by contacting the person indicated in each box. Hotel expenses must be paid directly by each participant and reservations should be made as soon as possible.

Please bear in mind that room rates for nights other than the ones scheduled for the meeting may vary due to the high demand for rooms during the month of November. Additional charges, such as telephone calls, restaurant, bar expenses and laundry service, must be paid directly to the hotel by each participant.

4.Flights

Delegates from member states and permanent observers to the OAS and other participants should reserve their return flights directly with the airline or their travel agent.

5.Chilean entry and exit requirements

Participants who need an entry visaare responsible for complying with the requirements established for that purpose by the Chilean Government.

Delegates from Canada, United States, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Saint Kitts andNevis, Santa Lucia, Saint Vincent andthe Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname carrying an official or diplomatic passport, laissez passer and traveling documents issued by International Organizations must request a Diplomatic Visa at the nearest Embassy or Consulate of Chile.

In those countries where there is no Diplomatic Representation of Chile (Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Santa Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Suriname), the Government of Chile will provide special services at their arrival in Santiago airport.

6.Reception at the airport

Each delegate is responsible for his/her own transportation from the airport to the selected Hotel.

7.Participant registration

Registration of participants will be conducted electronically at the following address: , with a copy sent to the email address of the coordination office in Chile (Annex II) by no later than November 10, 2010. Late registration will take place at the entrance to the Pedro de Valdivia Room of the hotel where the event will be held, from 8.00 a.m. onThursday, November 18. Delegates will receive an I.D. which, for security reasons, they must wear in a visible place in all activities during the meeting. Delegations are asked to present a copy of their official credentials when they register.

8.Working and document languages

The working sessions at the Meeting of Experts onPublic Security will be held in Spanish and English. Simultaneous interpretation in those languages will be provided. All official documents will be also in Spanish and English.

9.Currency

The Chilean currency is the peso. The current exchange rate is $ 480 to the US dollar. This rate varies daily. International credit cards are accepted by most hotels and businesses. At most commercial establishments you will find 24-hour teller machines.

10.Weather

During the month of November, when the meeting will be held, the average temperature in Santiago ranges from 10°C to 25°C (50°F to 80°F). Rain precipitation is rare. Proper Business Attire is required for all the sessions.

11.Local Time

In November the local time is two hours ahead of that in WashingtonD.C.

12.Banks’ business hours

Banks and Financial Institutions are open from 9:00a.m. until 2:00p.m.

13.Opening hours for shopping

Opening hours for shopping are from 10:30a.m. until 8:00p.m. Shopping malls are open from 11:00a.m. until 9:00p.m.

14.Electric current

Electric current in Santiago is 220 volts AC and 60 Hz. (In most cases a three-pronged adapter is needed).

15.Public transportation

The most convenient means of transport in Santiago is the (underground) Metro, which costs about US$1 per trip. The use of public transport buses is not recommended for short trips, as a prepaid card is required. It is usually better to take a taxi. Taxis have a basic fixed rate of 250 pesos plus a variable rate depending on how far you go, waiting time, etc. Every 100 meters costs approx. 80 to 100 pesos.
