Meeting called to order by Shahla at 12:40 p.m.

Approval of the DecemberMinutes: Unanimous with Minor Correction (the last name of Raymond Shaw was corrected.)

Tamara: The Black and Brown Anthology did not go well. It was well advertised and 300 people attended the event but the performance was very poor.

Willie: The MLK event was a success, 120 attendees, the speaker was outstanding. Eileen felt that students loved it and Mike got a lot of great feedback from the students. Millie noted that the Art portion of the event was meaningful to students. Tami did a fantastic job speaking at the event. Willie thought that more publicity could help for the next year event, food was plenty but water should be provided.

Nathan and Paula: Last year’s Denim Day was explained, would like to increase publicity for this year’s event, will use money from the $100-check from last year. This year Clothesline Project will be held on Denim Day. Flyers will be distributed on March 18th and 20th (BBQ Day), 500 stickers will be printed. Nathan will advise the campus clubs to support and raise awareness on Sexual Assault Month.

Rob Rex (the guest attendee from CASA) stated that the Center receives grants for Art Through Healing. The Center can offer money for supplies. Paula asked if CASA can pay for the printed T-shirts. Rob will look into it.

Vera heard from CASA that both campuses are in the boundaries of CASA now and thus the Center can help both campuses. She raised concerns about the insurance issues that hindered last year’s event.

Martha: Will get the District credit card to pay Michael’s upon the purchase of the supplies.

Susan: Magda, the Holocaust survivor, will be speaking on Peace Memorial Day on March 3rdfrom 12:30-2:00 in SJC Library. The theme is Counting the Uncounted. Susan is trying to create a documentary to keep a record for use in future events. The room for this event was a concern due to the age of 93-year old Magda.

Susan confirmed that that Corrin will be speaking on 3/11 on Human Trafficking at no cost. She will also talk about the services available through their agency.

Self-defense workshops will be offered on March 18th at the SJC gym.

Raymond: Human Rights films are offered this semester at San Jacinto campus. The first film was a huge success.

Shahla: A debate is scheduled by Amnesty International Club on Menifee campus in May, Is Christianity Good for the World? between honors student Aaron Hansen and Professor Roy Mason.

Mike: Black History Month Essay Reward will be held on Feb 21st at 6:00 p.m. in SJC Library.

Religious Understanding Day will be held on March 22nd at SJC. It will include agnostics and atheists.

Maria: Talked about Gary Caldwell who brought Native Americans to our college. She asked that we form a committee in building a Native American cultural center on San Jacinto campus. She will speak with Native American students to raise their interest and thought that Soboba and Morongo might be able to support this endeavor.

Vera: She asked for a vote to reallocate $100 for Denim Day that was obtained for human trafficking. A vote was taken and $50 was reallocated to Paula and $50 to Susan for the purchase of pastries and drinks for Magda’s reception. In addition, $300 was initially obtained for Take Back the Night. Another vote was taken to reallocate it for payment to Magda. $200 will go to Magda, $150 for pastries and ribbons.
