PARKS COMMISSION

October 7th, 2015

PRESENT: Ciara Carlson-Healy, Maitland Langworthy, Evie Sievert, Roger Pacos, Tom Battaglia

Meeting called to order by Roger Pacos at 7:05

No minutes from September because a quorum wasn’t present

Old Business

Halloween Preparation:

·  70th annual parade will be on 10/31 at 1 PM. Trick or treating hours will be from 3-7 PM

·  FHS Key Club and National Honor Society members will assist with cider and donuts

·  McDonald’s restaurant agreed to donate cups (and will also have a character participate in the parade)

·  Anyone who is able to help set up before the parade and/or help judge costumes please let Tom know.

·  Retired police officer Tom Fisher will be our Grand Marshall.

New Business

Winter Program:

·  Basketball

o  Scott VanDette is returning and will coordinate both the Elementary and Middle School sessions

o  Middle School program will be on Wednesdays, Elementary program on Thursday s

o  Held at Wheelock School gym from 6:30-8:00 PM

·  Wrestling

o  Steve Dando will be returning to coordinate program

o  Tuesday and Thursday evenings (follows the Varsity Team practice).

·  Both programs start after the holidays and will last 6 weeks

·  Community Ice Skating

o  We have 9 confirmed dates

§  Saturday – Sunday 12/26-27; Sun. 1/3; Sun 1/10; Sun 1/17; Sun 1/24; Sun 1/31; Sun 2/7; Sun 2/14

o  Cost remained at $175 per hour

o  Most sessions will run from 11:45 AM to 12:45 PM

o  January 10, 17, & 31 will run from 9:30 – 10:30 AM

o  SUNY has required that the liability insurance have coverage totaling $2,000,000 (increase from $1,000,000)

§  Tom will check with Rick to see how that will affect the premium. There is a possibility that a session may have to be cancelled to make up the difference

For the Good of the Order:

·  Cracks in the tennis/basketball courts at RJP have been repaired by SuperSeal of Rochester for $7,900

·  Rubber mulch has been installed at two of the play areas at the Barker St. Playground

·  Laona Halloween parade will be on 10/31 at 2 PM (their 30th year).

·  Motion to adjourn by Evie Sievert. Seconded by Maitland Langworthy. Carried.
