President’s Report

March/April 2016

Happy New Year

January/February:

January was a busy month for collecting, organizing and collating data for State Achievement

Award (SAA). Thanks to everyone who answered the call and submitted action items, event information, and/or reviewed the application prior to submission. With less than a three day notice the National office changed and extended the submission date for the SAA. Our award was turned in by the original deadline of 2-2-16 at 1400 CST.

Lisa, Lori and I attended State Council Leader Orientation SCLO in mid-February in Las Vegas.

Lessons learned included various ways to succession plan, organizational marketing techniques, entertain ways for fundraising, review fiduciary and legal responsibilities of the state council, along with reconnecting with ENA members from around the states including Alaska. It was a great opportunity to introduce Lisa to many influential ENA leaders that might assist her on the next phase of her journey.

Late in February Rita and I introduced a new member, Diana Ringer, to the workings of the AZ legislature on planned Lobby Day at the state capital. The morning included visiting with an AZ Senator and the staff members of several representatives. Ideas regarding mental health coverage and trauma care in our state were introduced and reviewed along with several others.Diana has also gathered a group of RN’s at Arrowhead Hospital who have pursued the CEN on-line review.

Next State meeting will be held April 1st at Banner University Hospital. Thanks to Susan Kinkade

for providing a venue, light supper and educational speaker.

Budget: There will not be any reimbursement grant money from the National office for SCLO

Action Items: Fundraising discussion and ideas.

CEN on-line review, I will be glad to be contact person.

Respectfully submitted,

Ginny Orcutt, MSN, RN, CEN

Government Affairs/Advocacy Committee Report

March/April 2016

OLD BUSINESS: none

COMMITTEE UPDATE: We did not participate in AzNA Lobby Day this year. There was conflicting information on the activities and focus of the event. In discussion with the President, it was decided to visit the Capitol as AZENA this year

COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES: Lobbyist paperwork is up to date. Ginny, Rita and member Diana Ringer (first time attendee) visited the Capitol on 2/25. We met with Senator Judy Burges and representatives for Senator Farley, and Representatives Livingston and Lovas. We left a fact sheet about our issues with each visit. An email blast was sent out by the webmaster prior to our Capitol Day. I also visited with federal Congressman Trent Franks during his “in district” time on March 9th. I am in the process of arranging a visit for him at Abrazo West Hospital, which is in his district. He has been a supporter of mental health reform issues and an ED visit will bring our needs front and center to him. Arrangements have been made for hotel and transportation for Day on the Hill in May

COMMITTEE INCOME & EXPENSES: I have been informed that my expenses for Day on the Hill will be covered by ENA since I am a member of the Advocacy Advisory Committee. Ginny will room with me, so expenses for AZENA will be less than budgeted.

COMMITTEE DATES & DEADLINES: ENA Day on the Hill May 9 - 11, 2016; Lobbyist 2nd Quarter Report due in April

BOARD ACTION NEEDED/BOARD VOTE: none

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: I have participated in monthly conference calls for the Advocacy Advisory Committee; HB 2355 (opioid antagonist) is passed in the House and is pending Senate action
