One could not have recognized Jessie Otero from the photo in last week’s Bulletin – so here’s one that does justice to our newest member. Jessie and her husband, Bobby, manage TLC Plumbing. And, no, that is not Jessie’s real badge, but she will receive it shortly. In the meantime, glad you’re here!

pharmaceutical supplies (not retail), cardio-pulmonary services, rehabilitation services, dietary and nutritional services and a laboratory, at both patient and outpatient levels.
Medical clinics offered include family, hospice, heritage, diabetes education and presentation, early intervention (Casa Alegre), first-born program, the Child’s Trust Fund Grant (includes parenting education) and other community education topics.
SGH recently was honored as one of the top 20 hospitals in the U.S. for CAH quality; the acronym stands for Critical Access Hospital; was awarded a top performer in pneumonia care; received the Brilliant Torch Award as measured by CMS core measures (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). In 2012, the hospital scored the top spot for flu vaccines in the state, and placed second in 2013. Patient satisfaction scores this year are 100 percent.
Ms. Pound announced that at midnight on Friday, the hospital would transition to an electronic record system, which would allow a doctor, say, in Albuquerque, “to see what we did here, and we could see what they did there,” she said. Presbyterian Hospital transitioned last year along with Clovis, while Socorro, Espanola, Tucumcari and Santa Rose would make the change this weekend.
SGH currently contracts its ultrasound services, “but we would like our own team,” said Ms. Pound. The hospital eventually wants to offer clinics on the blood thinner coumadin and extend clinic hours. The old surgical unit now is being used to sleep headquarters for helicopter personnel. Ms. Pound noted that a medical helicopter is housed at the Socorro Airport, ready for takeoff at a moment’s notice.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Rick introduced his guest, former Rotarian Blake Gerard. Noah passed outa bag of Swiss chocolates, and introduced the program, “Shelter Box,” a relief charity that assists displaced families. His group, one of 14 in NM, is selling a cookbook with 60 international recipes for $15, with proceeds to benefit Shelter Box; Noah contributed four, including “a bacon and cheese pie I thought Americans would like.” Penny: Friday’s wine tasting brought in a profit of $1,947 (including $521 from the silent auction), about $500 more than last year. Len: The Austins donated Rotary t-shirts, one each in men’s and women’s XL. Name a price. Also, the first Don’t Meth With Us program was given Tuesday at San Antonio School, with assistance from Deputy Billy Armijo; there are four more next week. Jon noted the passing of Rotarian and philanthropist Don Chalmers, and circulated a card for the Chalmers family. Judge Kase donateda check for $100 Euros for 100 percent attendance on Ed Kase Day.

Socorro General Hospital Services
Veronica Pound, BSN/Interim Administrator and Director of Patient Care at Socorro General Hospital, updated Rotarians on the many services offered by SGH. Ms. Pound will graduate in October with an MBA. She noted that the 24-bed facility with 24-hour emergency room services meets the needs of residents in Sierra, Catron, Valencia and Socorro counties.
A general surgeon will practice at SGH beginning in September, along with a family practice physician who can perform Caesarean sections when necessary. Other services includeradiology,
