Meet FiftyForward

Mission. FiftyForward enriches the lives of adults 50+ by providing pathways to health, well-being and lifelong learning.

History. Founded in 1956, FiftyForward (Senior Citizens, Inc. 1956-2008) annually touches the lives of more than 20,000 individuals – senior adults, children and families in Middle Tennessee.

Credentials. FiftyForward is both the leading resource for adults 50+ who seek to live longer, more fulfilling lives and the premier provider of innovative programs and services for older adults and their families. A powerful leadership team of professional staff, volunteers and community partners have contributed to the agency’s growth and success through the years.

Our four main areas of operation are our centers, volunteer programs, services for frail or homebound seniors and their care givers, and the performing arts.

Centers. Through seven centers and a variety of programs in Davidson and Williamson counties, members participate in hundreds of educational and wellness programs including all types of exercise and dancing, choral and instrumental music, painting and other fine arts, computer, creative writing, picture framing, crafts and more. Five centers are accredited by NISC, the National Institute of Senior Centers.

Our popular FiftyForward Travel programs enable older adults to visit local, regional, national and international destinations throughout the year.

Volunteer Programs. RSVP provides meaningful volunteer experiences, matching individuals’ interests and skills with local institutions’ needs. Moreover, for those interested in tutoring and mentoring children, Friends Learning in Pairs (FLIP)and Foster Grandparents) are popular offerings.

Living at Home Services (LAHS). For elderly adults who are frail or may be confined to their homes, LAHS offers Adult Day Services, Meals on Wheels, Care Management and Victory over Crime. Conservatorship and a new program titled The Care Team offer care management and additional fee-for-service support for individuals and/or caregivers through personalized assessment followed by referral and advocacy, monitoring of care, and more.

Performing Arts. Two major programs.

The Larry Keeton Theatre, located in FiftyForward Donelson Station, offers a full season of musicals, along with special concerts, plus a summer camp, acting and dance classes.

Music for Seniors pairs professional musicians with area senior centers, day programs, retirement communities and home-bound older adults for on-going interactive music programming
