Medical Transcription is a competency-based training program covering requirementsfor employment as a home-based medical transcriptionist including patient diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Learn to transcribe dictation done by physicians and other health care professionals. Self-management skills are essential for success in this career.

The difference between the two programs is that Medical Transcription Editor (43 credits) is eligible for federal financial aid; Medical Transcription Editor Skills (29 credits) is not eligible for federal financial aid.

Class Hours:

Day - Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Evening - Tuesday 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

8/12/13, 9/3/13, 9/30/13,, 1/6/13, 2/3/13 and 3/3/2013

The series of medical transcription courses are available online/hybrid requiring classroom attendance the first day and two hours per week. Online course work requires approximately 35 hours per week of study time each week to successfully complete.

Cost of Program:

Medical Transcription Editor:43 credits$5666 plus $411 for textbooks

Medical Transcription Editor Skills29 credits$4238 no textbooks required

Prices reflect in-state tuition. Student must show proof of one year Colorado residency to qualify. Costs cited are for courses started during the 2013-2014 school year only. Out-of-state tuition is an additional $100 per credit.

Entrance testing is required reading TABE 10.0 or Accuplacer 62, math TABE 7.0 or Accuplacer 47.

Assessment Hours in Room 205: Gov’t-issued Photo ID required. No appointment necessary.

The 43-credit Medical Transcription Editor Program is eligible for FAFSA/Pell Grant.

The 29-credit Medical Transcription Editor Skills Program is not eligiblefor FAFSA/Pell Grant.

EGTC does not participate in any student loan program

The Pell Grant is the only federal financial aid (FAFSA) offered at Emily Griffith.

Getting started in the Medical Transcription Editor Program

  1. Attend a monthly Health Informational meeting.For dates, email
  2. Complete school application. Government-issued photo ID required.
  3. Complete free assessment test in Room 205.
  4. Schedule an appointment with your advisor. Advisor email
  5. Register, pay and get your school ID number.
  6. Email your instructor 48 hours prior to your first day to allow time for your online access.
