NON-LINEAR MIXED MODELS ANALYSIS

USING THE SAS® SYSTEM

11 – 12 November 2004

Course content

This course will cover a brief introduction to the statistical background of the non-linear mixed model. Emphasis will be placed on the use of various SAS macros and the NLMIXED procedure and their practical application. The analyses will be illustrated using SAS in practical sessions. Topics covered include:

·  General concepts and underlying statistical theory

·  Use and interpretation of the %GLIMMIX macro

·  Use and interpretation of the NLMIXED procedure

·  Consideration of issues such as biased standard errors, significance testing, negative variance components and the numerical performance of the procedure.

Note: The course notes are in English but the course will be taught in Danish.

Who should attend

This course is directed at statisticians who wish to expand their knowledge of the statistical background of non-linear mixed models and to carry out analyses using SAS.

Before attending the course, you should have experience performing analysis of variance using the MIXED procedure of SAS/STAT software. Exposure to matrix algebra will enhance your understanding of the material. Some experience in manipulating SAS data sets and producing graphs using SAS/GRAPH is also recommended.

The speaker

Anders Milhøj, Institute of Economics, University of Copenhagen

An experienced lecturer, educated as a theoretical statistician 1979 and since then working in the academic world mainly with applications of statistics in the field of economics, e.g. sampling, regression and times series analysis. Anders has written many textbooks including a series of lecture notes in SAS – programming (in Danish, Akademisk Forlag).
