Title/Position: Medical Assistant RN Annex

Supervisor: Site Provider, Clinic Manager

Described Duties:

  1. Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services' providers and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of Northwest Health Services, Inc., according to established policies and procedures.
  2. Place patients in exam rooms and record vital signs, current complaints, and pertinent history.
  3. Assist multiple providers within established patient care protocols.
  4. Provide patient education per provider request.
  5. Communicate significant clinical information to other health care professionals as necessary.
  6. Initiate I.V. therapy and therapeutic phlebotomy as directed by providers.
  7. Review Lab and X-ray results with providers and Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Services Coordinator.
  8. Communicate test results to patients in a tactful and professional manner and schedule follow-up visits, if indicated.
  9. Ensure that exam rooms and required instruments/equipment for procedures and treatments are re-stocked daily.
  10. Screen patient calls and make follow-up calls as requested by the provider staff.
  11. Prepare patient record information for physician referrals.
  12. Assist in X-ray as needed.
  13. Ensure instruments are clean and sterilized.
  14. Assist with orientation of rotating clinical personnel.
  15. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  16. Receive dictation and assures that it’s in the medical record for signature of provider.
  17. Assist in narcotic records, counting narcotics weekly with a provider or another R.N., and assist providers in ordering and recording controlled substances.
  18. Maintain current CPR certification.
  19. Perform phlebotomy procedures per protocol as directed by provider staff.
  20. Perform and report proficiency testing as required.
  21. Maintain accurate laboratory records in a neat and orderly fashion.
  22. Perform responsibilities outlined in laboratory manual - specimen processing, test performance and reporting test results (laboratory testing personnel).
  23. Responsible for scheduling clinical personnel for HoltCounty sites.
  24. Prepare forms for patient assistance program.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Possess the cognitive skills necessary to understand terminology, medical records, instructions, and motor skills necessary to perform technical procedures.
  2. Possess tact, and patience, along with a professional appearance and attitude.
  3. Respect and maintain patient confidentiality.
  4. Possess ability to use tact and patience in communicating effectively with the Provider Staff, Administration, and patients.
  5. Possess ability to appraise, reward, and critique performance as well as address complaints.
  6. Must be able to talk, hear, react, stand, kneel, and lift, pull and push up to 50 pounds.
  7. Must be able to assist patients on and off exam tables.
  8. Provide patient care services efficiently in a health care environment, exhibiting fine motor skills, precise eye/hand coordination, walk, talk, hear.
  9. Ability to visually assess patient condition.
  10. Maintains a professional appearance and attitude

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate from accredited school of nursing; minimum of AD.
  2. Licensed as an R.N. in the State of Missouri with 5 years of hospital or clinic experience preferred.
  3. Possess BCLS.
  4. Potential hazards: needles, cuts, possibility of back injury while lifting, exposure to body fluids, blood and blood products.
