Job Summary
This position performs waived and non-waived tests as defined by CLIA 88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA 88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA).

Essential Functions

 Organizes and performs or supports patient testing and facilitates overall efficient function of the entire lab. Ensures quality results through the collection and analysis of appropriate samples, use and evaluation of control materials, testing consistent with state licensure requirements, and proper instrument maintenance.

 Recognizes abnormal results or unusual circumstances and takes appropriate actions. Utilizes available resources to maintain and fix instruments or problem solve issues in collaboration with the Medical Technologist.

 Maintains current knowledge and skills applicable to job assignment through continuing education or professional organizations.

 Demonstrates knowledge of all automated systems used in the department and can perform basic troubleshooting of system problems. Demonstrates competence and complies with pertinent accrediting agency and regulatory requirements.

 Orders and maintains inventory of testing supplies in designated area. Recognizes and provides input for opportunities for improvements in financial performance.

 May be required to perform basic phlebotomy. May hire, train, conduct performance reviews, and direct the workflow for the department staff.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician) OR a student in a recognized MLT program who has completed a clinical rotation in the area of hire and will receive MLT (ASCP or equivalent) certification within one year from completion of the program.
MLT/ASCP certification or equivalent. (Equivalent is defined as ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB.)
Demonstrates highly developed interpersonal skills and is proficient in basic computer skills. Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills, and high level of self-motivation. Use of mathematics, perform detailed work; work with frequent interruptions, multi-task, problem solve and memorization, Ability to take direction and assimilate instructions quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science and applicable laboratory experience.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Job Summary
This position facilitates services and provides support within the department. Responsible for a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to department testing, clinical relevance, and complex problem solving skills. This position serves as a department resource, and is responsible for assisting with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agency and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA 88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA).

Individuals with specialty certification may only work in the discipline of their specialty. A current license in state practiced as required by state law.
This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with 1+ years of experience. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.
Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills, and high level of self-motivation. Communicates effectively in oral and written formats sufficient to demonstrate comprehension. Job Summary
This position is responsible for all aspects of patient result reporting in any assigned area of the laboratory, demonstrating superior proficiency in analysis, quality control and quality assurance operation and evaluation, procedure implementation and maintenance, superior communication skills, customer service, instrument implementation and maintenance, problem solving, leadership and organization/prioritization skills. Collaborates with all members of the health care team to provide quality service to our customers.

Essential Functions

 Monitors daily workflow of departmental processes and works assigned shifts in areas of supervision. Maintains skills to perform all positions supervised.

 Supervises the operations of assigned areas, to include hiring, orientation, scheduling, educational needs & staff competency, performance reviews and disciplinary functions. Assists Laboratory Director in the resolution of systems issues and enforces department policies so that employee problems and conflicts are resolved in a prompt and efficient manner.

 Ensures that standards for compliance, use of equipment, and quality control are met as required by all accrediting, state, and/or federal agencies. Ensures regulatory requirements of the department are met, delegating duties to staff as appropriate. Provides director/manager with timely information regarding variances of these standards.

 Coordinates quality and safety activities including department Quality Improvement projects and plan, assumes oversight of ongoing proficiency and competency testing, and facilitates activities of the department with the QA committee and safety committee. Ensures quality results through the use and evaluation of control materials, proper instrument maintenance, analysis and reporting of proficiency testing results as well as the review of returned results with the medical director.

 Oversees occurrence reports, investigation of concerns (from physicians, patients and other customers) and follow up, problem resolution, record keeping and reporting.

 Makes recommendations for technical changes and improvements in their section with the sections Medical Director. Participates with vendors and technical representatives to maintain equipment services and other contracts for best product pricing, quality and future testing needs.

 Performs all functions of a Med Lab Scientist, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree (BA or BS) in Medical Technology or clinically related biological science.
Successful examination and registration as a Medical Technologist with ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or equivalent.
Must be able to communicate effectively, in both oral and written formats.
Preferred Qualifications
In the Cryo Lab setting, a current membership with the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) or equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years of lab research experience in bacteria, stem cell or related field is required. Experience as an MT in a clinical hospital laboratory. Leadership experience. Ability to utilize computer programs for reports and graphs.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
