Medical Cash Posting Specialist

The Posting Specialist is responsible for posting payments and adjustments for insurance and patients, analyzing insurance explanation of benefits and patient checks, processing of electronic check transactions, bank balancing, obtaining the necessary documentation required for posting and researching and resolving unapplied payment and credit balances.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1.  Post payments received and reconcile system postings to lockbox &/or EOB total.

2.  Daily balancing and posting in NextGen.

3.  Reconcile payments each day with Accounting.

4.  Research unapplied, unidentifiable payments, and process refunds.

5.  Record NSF checks returned by bank and notify patient of adjusted balance due.

6.  Review credit balance report and prepare refund check requests for overpayments to be approved by Billing Manager.

7.  Identify payment discrepancies and payer trends.

8.  Provides education to other staff on encounter payments as appropriate to minimize error reoccurrence and support maximum reimbursement.

9.  Evaluate and processes accounts under the CHCGD policy for uncollectible, adjustments and placement with outside collection agency.

10.  Completes bad debt process based on the approval granted.

11.  Initiate & complete account adjustments to correct account balance and/or comply with contractual and sliding fee scale requirements.

12.  Assists with training of new employees.

13.  Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1.  High School diploma or equivalent certificate required; Associate’s degree helpful; Billing certification helpful.

2.  2-5 years of medical billing or medical cash posting experience preferred.

3.  Working knowledge of FQHC billing helpful

4.  Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding.

5.  Experience with payer Explanation of Benefits

6.  Knowledge of payer contracts.

7.  General knowledge of UB04, HCFA1500 and ODJFS 6780

8.  Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

9.  Proficient with computers and Windows based software programs.
