Bridgeport Energy LLC is a 560 MWcombined-cycle natural gas-fired power plant located in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Owned and operated by Emera Energy, Bridgeport’s premium location, access to lower cost gas via the Iroquois pipeline, and robust local transmission infrastructure make it a key supplier of electrical energy in New England. Since acquiring Bridgeport Energy in 2013, Emera Energy has made substantial investment in the plant upgrading both combustion turbines, controls, and other balance of plant equipment in support of the company’s philosophy in maintenance and operational excellence.

As a developing and integral member of our team you will receive training and experience in the various phases of office and field engineering work in a modern Combined Cycle Gas Turbine facility. The Mechanical Engineer is accountable for maintaining and repairing all types of power plant and steam distribution equipment, buildings, grounds and auxiliary equipmentat the Bridgeport site. This includes completing all related Preventative Maintenance and repair work. Additional accountabilities are noted below.

Accountabilities include:

  • Lead the resolution of technical issues ensuring safety and loss control, environmental management, production, maintenance and asset management objectives are met.
  • Monitor performance, identify, and recommend improvements and support implementation.
  • Support the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the Asset Management Program.
  • Support implementation of industry best practices as it relates to plant maintenance and operation.
  • Involvement in the capital program including project scoping, project planning, cost control and project management.
  • Support or lead shutdown and maintenance planning as required.
  • Management of various service agreements in place with OEMs on Plant Equipment.
  • Effectively communicate and lead teams.
  • Initiate and lead root cause analysis and management of change completion.
  • Liaise with regulators, ISO-NE, contractors, and internal customers.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineeringwith a 5 to 10 years relevant experience in an industrial setting.
  • Experience with Gas Turbines, Boilers or HRSGs, Steam Turbinesand/orrotating equipment is preferred.
  • Maintain First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Read and interpret drawings, P&ID's and blueprints
  • Highly skilled in repair, maintenance and installation of power plant equipment
  • Must be proficient in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Proficient in other computer technology and use of various computer based tools (i.e. Word, Autocad, Excel, PI, RedTag, etc.), time keeping, computer based training and others as needs and technology changes over time.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, knowledge of project management and maintenance planning software (Maximo) will also be considered strong assets.
  • You possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to personal development.
  • You are a self-starter with excellent organizational and analytical skills who is able to function effectively in a team environment.
  • You must be willing to provide after-hours consultation and may be required to travel to other Emera Energy facilities for support of above accountabilities. A valid Driver’s license and passport are required.

This position will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, and includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening.

Physical requirements include: working on feet for 12 hour periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing.. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc. Occasional work from height with fall protection and entering of confined spaces will be required.
