POSITION TITLE:Planned and Major Gifts Officer|

REPORTS TO: President & CEO and Chief Development Officer|

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Major and Planned Gifts Officer is part of a dynamic development team with a diversified foundation platform that includes annual fund, planned gifts, grants, special events and major gifts. This new position reports to the President & CEO and Chief Development Officer and works collaboratively with the other Meals on Wheels Foundation team members. The Major and Planned Gifts Officer will develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals for significant gifts ($5,000+) to advance the mission of Meals on Wheels for Western New York, Inc. and assist donors in fulfilling their philanthropic goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Manage the portfolio of major gift prospects/donors.
  2. Identify prospects through Meals on Wheels existing donors and prospect research.
  3. Cultivate, solicit and steward individuals for significant annual fund and, as appropriate, program and capital gifts/capital campaign ($5,000+). Initial prospects may have a history of making gifts to the organization of $500+.
  4. Manage relationship process for major gift and planned giving donors from prospect solicitation to post gift management.
  5. In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer and the President and Chief Executive Officer, establish goals for contacts, visits and solicitations.
  6. Develop and implement strategy for the major and planned gifts program, prepare proposals and materials for solicitation, and manage cultivation events, research and community networking.
  7. Participate in Meals on Wheels and community events to promote cultivation and stewardship of donors.
  8. Play a key role in the Hunger and Home Program (sustainable funding program).
  9. Work collaboratively with key Meals on Wheels staff, Board Members and key lay leaders to cultivate and grow donor relationships.
  10. Grow giving societies such as the Distinguished Donor Society and Strengthening Our Community Society.
  11. Identify and participate in external special events, recognition and stewardship programs as appropriate.
  12. Attend and work all Meals on Wheels Foundation and Agency special events. Must be available nights and weekends as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in related field
  2. Minimum of three years’ experience in fundraising
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of staff, board, donors and community members
  4. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with the confidence to delegate and collaborate appropriately
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills to include solid customer service and problem resolution abilities
  6. Strong work ethic and service-oriented attitude
  7. Strong computer skills with solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, database knowledge and telephone protocol
  8. Ability to travel as necessary to support Meals on Wheels’ initiatives, including valid NYS Driver’s License, personal vehicle and valid insurance
  9. Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  10. Proven ability to interact with multiple constituencies, including agencies, community groups and all funding sources
  11. Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 35 lbs.
