Minutes from January 20, 2015

Officers Present:

The meeting came to order at 7:35 PM

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – Mr. Bell

Great holiday concert – thank you to Mr. Dunn.

Student Teacher in 1st grade working out great – Alexandra Loda, DiChiara’s class.

Monday, January 18 was Professional Development Day; we worked with Linda Foti (consultant) who was great. K-1 Staff worked with her focusing on meeting the needs of all different learners and differentiating instruction. Upper elementary level focus was on training for Google apps for education which will officially roll out next year. Also, Google doc slides – was the first opportunity to work with those apps. The goal was to familiarize so next year they can begin working with students.

If you want to make sure you are receiving all emails, go on the Parent Portal and check mark next to your email to receive.

Threats occurred in many of the Bergen County Schools. FBI is actually investigating. There were no specific threats to Hillsdale.

Kindergarten registration will begin around February and will be online only. New policy will be in effect for assessment. Children with difficulty reading will be screened for dyslexia.

HIB State score 75 out of 80 – which is fantastic.

Progress reports will be out on January 29th.

This year the PARCC will only be one session. 3rd grade: April 4-8; 4th grade: April 11-15. It will not take up the whole week.

The school calendar is approved for next year – September 6th will be the first day.

TEACHER’S REPRESENTATIVE REPORT – Mrs. Lorraine Woods

We are all looking forward to the Brain Show and the Blue Jean Ball. Teachers should be saving receipts for reimbursement. Please get the work out.

TREASURER’S REPORT – Joan Luciano

Everything is paid.

Raffle account - $969 was moved.

We are waiting on spirit wear invoice.

We just received a check for $721 for box tops, so keep sending in the box tops. We also got $1200 from Joseph’s photography. The school toolbox only made $11.00. We moved to paperless statements which saved $4.00 a month.

Compared to last year we are down a little, but we have some things coming up. The newest birthday book club has been well received. We took a loss on holiday boutique but we have the inventory for next year and we are still trying to do some returns to recoup some money.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Ann Jansen

We really need people to Chair some events next year.

Erin Hampton is willing to do the book fair for a third year, but someone will need to take over the Harvest Fest.

Frank Pizella offered at the meeting that he and his wife will take over the Harvest Fest and he will try to find a couple people to help. He will also do the Softball event.

Bricks for Kids went over very well. There is also another STEM program called Wings In Motion that we will look into.

Update from Danielle Brennan on Meadowbrook Idol. The link will be in the Friday newsletter. This event will be a fundraiser – admission will be charged and we will sell boosters. The event will take place at PV high school. There will also be a design cover contest for the program. Any grade can participate in the contest for the program.

Multi-cultural night will take place on February 24 from 6:30-8:00pm. The theme will be Fun, Facts & Food.

Kristen Kardell recommended fundraiser with Square One Art.

We will not do the Yankee Candle and frozen food fundraisers. Suggestion to do a car magnet. There were also suggestions for restaurant nights and a Bingo night.
