McNeese Freshman Scholarship Opportunities
Below are five scholarships to be awarded to Barbe senior students who will be attending McNeese State University in the fall. Please look to see which ones you may be eligible for and apply for them using the attached application. Return all applications to guidance office by Wednesday, April 20th, 2017. You may apply for more than one scholarship if you meet the qualifications. Please duplicate your application and indicate a scholarship name on each application.
Canaday Language Arts Studies Scholarship (CLASS) $320/semester
Donor: Judge and Mrs. G Michael Canaday
Requirements: Barbe High School graduate excelling in Language Arts
Minimum GPA: 3.0 Minimum ACT: 20
U. S. Citizen, Calcasieu Parish Resident
Available for first two semesters of recipient’s freshman year
Sara Ann Chronister Memorial Scholarship $405/semester
Donor: Mr. and Mrs. Mark Chronister, Various Donors
Requirements: Barbe High School Graduate
Minimum 3.0 grade point average
U. S. Citizen, Louisiana resident
Available for the first two semesters of the recipient’s freshman year
Skip Rogers Memorial Scholarship$720/semester
Donor: Barbe High School Class of 1986, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Rogers
Requirements: Barbe High School graduate
Minimum GPA: 3.5 Minimum ACT: 25
Calcasieu Parish Resident
Available for the first two semesters of the recipient’s freshman year
Philip E. and Dewanna Tarver Scholarship at Barbe High School$500/semester
Donor: Mr. and Mrs. Phil Tarver
Requirements: Minimum GPA: 2.5
Available for the first two semesters of the recipient’s freshman year
Lake Charles American Press Foundation Scholarship approx. $700/semester
Donor: American Press
Requirements: Minimum GPA: 2.5

“What would I do to improve my community with a college education?”
“Why have I chosen McNeese State University to further my education?”
