The Olive Gilbreath-McLorn Scholarship

***Submit your application for the Olive Gilbreath-McLorn Scholarship to the guidance counselor no later than March 28, 2013. Mrs. Fleshman will submit all applications by April 1, 2013, to the Trustees. The winner will be announced at the Awards Banquet.***

THE OLIVE GILBREATH-McLORN SCHOLARSHIP

The Olive Gilbreath-McLorn Scholarship will be given to a La Plata High School graduating senior who intends to pursue additional education at an accredited four-year university or college. Preference will be given to a student who shows a special interest in science and mathematics (may be waived). Financial need may also be a consideration. There will be one recipient selected and one alternate in case the terms of the scholarship are not met by the first candidate.

In addition the recipient of the scholarship must meet the following requirements:

1)  Must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or better.

2)  Score above 18 on the ACT (American College Test).

3)  Show outstanding leadership, character, and mental ability.

4)  Must provide a written application showing maturity and purpose.

5)  Must show proof of enrollment in an accredited institution.

Terms of Scholarship Disbursement:

Half of the scholarship amount will be awarded to the winner after enrollment for the first semester is received, the second half will be awarded after successful completion of first semester and enrollment of the second semester is documented. Should the first candidate drop out of school before the second semester, the remaining scholarship amount will be awarded to the alternate. If both should default, the remaining funds will be returned to the Gilbreath-McLorn Trustees.
