McDowell Girls Lacrosse
Steering Committee Meeting
March 6, 2012
Attendance- Dave, Lu, Julie, Marissa, Sue, Greg, Bruce, Dory, Audrey, several parents of players
1. Coaches report-Marissa reports that there are 32 players. All money, paperwork must be in for the players to be able to play. If players need to develop a payment plan, then they must set this up with Sue. Marissa stated that there was a good turn out for practice. She talked about the new WPIAL rule- we won’t be a part of the WPIAL play offs but will play for D10 which gives us an opportunity to advance. The schedule is finalized. Knoch game is still the 18th. There is a scrimmage against Fairview March 15th and a scrimmage against Villa on the 21st.
All games are set up via a master schedule for WPIAL. There is an issue with the vans and the number of seats available. We won’t have enough room for all girls and would have to rent additional vans. May be better to just use the buses. Dave will look into this and see if there is a significant cost difference.
Bruce stated that there are 22 middle school players. Two currently have concussions. He is expecting about 30 players. He doesn’t think there will be problem with uniforms-these will be distributed on the 18th at Gus Anderson. All girls have turned in their money. Parents will be providing transportation. Working on the schedule—games to be held on April 14th (extra game at Franklin Regional), game on June 2nd- Franklin Regional and Fairview. There is a potential tournament at Family first on June 16/17th. Bruce asked that he be informed of any tournaments before they are posted on our website.
Discussion was also held concerning USA lacrosse registration. We need to make sure that names of girls who are not playing are removed. We also talked about the length of the meetings and how it might be beneficial to separate middle school and high school at a certain point as much of the info is geared toward the high school.
2. Spirit wear/equipment: All spirit wear is in with the exception of the rugby shirts. Lu is willing to run a second order as long as we have 6 items. Uniforms will be distributed on Thursday. It may take a few sessions
3. Treasurer’s Report: Sue has posted many of the sponsors on the website already. A new cashbox was given to Dory G. for the concession stand. Dave kept the old one. Sue recommended that Dory start the cash box with the same amount of money for each game. Dory will keep track of all sales.
Marissa was given an installment payment
Tom Skelly gave us a first aid bag. Discussion was held about an AED. May be able to get one donated. Marissa to check with Paul.
4. Secretary’s report: Julie provided initial list to Marissa of players who have turned in paperwork.
5. Snack Bar: Dory spoke about the status for the season. Went through current supplies and will purchase what is not donated. Need to get the list out to families about what they can donate. Marissa has the key for the concession stand. We may want to get a second key for Dory. Marissa will check with Brian Fuller. We can always use more help.
6. Banquet/Senior Night: Mrs. Tushak will spear head this aspect. Dave has the packet with all of the information. Mrs. Tushak to send out “save the date” information
Banquet is May 29, 2012 at Bel Aire
Senior Night is May 7 in the cafeteria
7. Logistics: Mrs. Camino will spearhead this aspect for us. Confirm buses. Confirm trainer for home games. Dave will buy water and drop off the cooler so water/ice cooler is ready for away games. Dave is working on hotel quotes for the overnighter and will meet with Mrs Camino to firm up plans. Dave was going to check to see if our walkie talkies work . Will need these for game day. We need a “watch dog” parent in the stands during home games to mediate any problems. Will need parent volunteers to help set up the field. Bruce asked about paying middle school refs. They will be paid the same as high school refs.
8. Communications; Colleen is taking team pictures as we speak She is finishing the Act 102 posters. Coordinate with the Banquet lead as time draws nearer
9. Game Day Coordinator/ IT: will need to make sure rosters are accurate. Will need to make sure someone is working the scoreboard and announcing.
10. Statistics: Mrs. Brady has volunteered to handle this task for us. I have indicated to her that Bruce will give her advice on this. She suggested the Villa game might be a good learning experience for the season
11. Fundraising: Mrs Chabola will be transitioning into this position. Dave will give her info
- DQ coupons
- Tag day scheduling.
- Audrey’s quilt making proposal-Audrey provided us with information about the quilt project and the potential for use as a fundraiser. Please see attached form.
12. New Business- Dave suggested that parents who volunteer receive some sort of discount. No decisions were made. Website remains a work in progress.
By Laws issue: Can G Horanyk run for office if his child is middle school?
Respectfully submitted,
