Mazinaw Rock and Row Tour
July 22-24th, 2016
Mazinaw Lake, Ontario
Spend the weekend exploring the Mazinaw Lake, located in the Addington Highlands of Eastern Ontario, highway #41, north of Kaladar. Mazinaw Lake is divided into 2 sections, Upper Mazinaw and Lower Mazinaw. At it’s deepest point, it reaches 476 feet and runs almost 14 km long. At the narrows, home to Bon Echo Provincial Park, you will row along the Mazinaw Rock. It’s height reaches 328 feet and features over 260 native pictographs. Can you spot them all?
Itinerary:
Day 1 – Friday, July 22:
7:00pm-9:00pm – Meet and Greet held at the Mazinaw Lakeside Resort. We will rig the boats at our launch site, check into our accommodations and enjoy some light snacks and a campfire.
Day 2 – Saturday, July 23:
8:00am – Catered Breakfast. Coffee, mimosas and Ted’s Famous Pannekoeken (Dutch Pancake’s) with all the fixin’s!
9:30am – Launch from the north end of the lake, heading towards the narrows where we can spend time rowing up close to the Rock, searching for the pictographs and the tribute to Walt Whitman, inscribed into the rock for Flora MacDonald Denison, who ran the Bon Echo Inn during the 1910’s.
1:00pm – We beach at Bon Echo Park for a picnic lunch.
2:00pm-4:0pm – Free time. Options: Hike up the Bon Echo Rock for a view of the lake and surrounding areas.
OR
Take the 1 hour guided boat tour of the Mazinaw Rock and learn more of the history it holds
OR
Relax on the beach, take a swim and tour the Art Exhibit hosted by the park this weekend.
4:00pm – Launch from the park and row back up the lake.
7:00pm – Catered Dinner at the resort.
Day 3 – Sunday, July 24th:
8:00am – Catered Breakfast, Continental
9:00am – Launch from the North end and head North up river (water levels permitting).
Or, we will row into Campbell’s Bay and Hungry Bay connected to the Upper Mazinaw.
12:00pm – Dock, derig and load trailer.
1:00pm – Farewell lunch, catered at the Resort.
Registration Fees:
Both options include: 2 nights accommodations, 4 sit-down meals, 1 picnic meal, seat fees, boat transport costs, event bag-of-goodies, and a CD of all the photos taken during the tour.
Roofed Accommodations:
Price: $250 per person
Cabin 1: Sleeps 4 people
Fully furnished, 3 piece bath and kitchenette. 1 bedroom with 2 double beds, living area with pullout.
Cabin 2: Sleeps 4 people
Fully furnished, 3 piece bath and kitchenette. 2 bedrooms – 1 with double bed, 1 with bunk beds and living area with pullout
Yurt 1: Sleeps 2 people
Fully furnished, hydro – no water. 1 double bed.
Yurt 2: Sleeps 2 people
Fully furnished, hydro – no water. 2 single beds.
Roofed accommodations are on a first come/first serve basis. Please let me know if there is someone you would prefer to bunk with. Please bring your own bedding.
Tent Sites:
Price: $230 per person
There are tent sites available. Large enough to hold 2 eight-man tents each. Please bring your own tent.
All yurts and tent sites have near-by washroom/shower facilities.

Non-Rower Fees:
For those of you with family members interested in joining us on the tour (but will not be rowing), cost is $200 for roofed accommodations or $150 for tent sites, per person. Fees include day passes to Bon Echo Provincial Park. One per car.

I, the undersigned, do understand and hereby acknowledge and agree that participation in rowing/sculling involves certain risks and dangers which include, but are not limited to, cold weather and water, physical exertion and muscle strain, heart attack, hypothermia, heat exhaustion and drowning. In consideration for permitting me to engage in rowing/sculling activities (on water and on land) on an event sponsored or organized by the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association. I on my own behalf and behalf of my heirs, executors, administrators or assigns do hereby release and forever discharge the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association, its directors, officers, employees, agents, tour organizers and volunteers (hereby referred to as the “Released Parties”) from any and all liability and responsibility for any injury, death, loss or damage to my person or property however caused, including, but not limited to, the negligence of the Released Parties, whether passive or active. For greater certainty, I understand and agree that I am not only giving up my right to sue the Release Parties, but also any rights my heirs, assigns or beneficiaries may have to sue the Release Parties resulting from my death.
I further agree, acknowledge and confirm that I can swim, have sculled for more than one full season, I am familiar with, and understand the danger associated with cold weather and water, specifically hypothermia and how to deal with it should an accident occur.
Finally, I hereby acknowledge and confirm that I am a current member of a community rowing club registered and/or a member of RowOntario and Rowing Canada Aviron. I understand that my participation in rowing/sculling activities at an Ontario Adventure Rowing Association event is conditional upon confirmation that I am fully registered with RowOntario and Rowing Canada Aviron. I acknowledge and agree that the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association has the right to refuse to allow me to participate in rowing/sculling event organized by the Ontario Adventure Rowing Association if I am not fully registered with RowOntario and Rowing Canada Aviron.
