Thank you for giving your time to consider a teaching and leading position at Maungatapu School.

Our decile 5 school has a long and rich history, having been established in 1881, and is supported by a friendly, family based community. Many Maungatapu residents and members of their whanau have attended Maungatapu School over the years and we proudly maintain strong and valued relationships with our local residents and former students.

The school has a growing pupil roll of over 580 with a total of 25 classrooms, including 4 full immersion classes within Te Puwhaariki Rumaki.Our pupils are diverse and lively and we seek teachers who are able to build strong relationships with pupils and their families and whanau. Our teachers need to be able to adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of our pupils who present with an array of strengths, needs, and interests. At Maungatapu School, we are committed to supporting the welfare and well being of our pupils as well as their academic achievement.

Our school is set within spacious grounds and playing fields and our pupils relish having opportunities to participate in a variety of sports and cultural experiences. The school has positive relationships with the local kindergarten, kohanga reo and pre school providers.

Person specification.

We seek a teacher who:

  • Approaches their teaching with positivity and enthusiasm
  • Values establishing and maintaining genuine relationships with colleagues, pupils and their families and whanau
  • Has the ability to lead a year 5/6 teaching team and to coach and support colleagues.
  • Has an in depth curriculum knowledge and the ability to effectively design and implement mathematics and literacy programmes
  • Is a reflective practitioner, able to receive and act upon professional feedback, with a willingness to adapt and change their practice so that it effectively meets the needs ofteachers and students within the team.
  • Takes pride in establishing a learning environment that is inspiring and motivating and includes the integration of ICT within the learning programme
  • Is willing to share or extend their knowledge of te reo and tikanga Maori
  • Is willing to take part in extra curricular activities
  • Is resourceful, creative, and innovative with a willingness to think outside the square to incorporate new ideas and approaches into their teaching and leading practice.

Applications close at 12 noon on Tuesday, December 5th.

Shortlisting will take place on December 5th, followed by interviews for shortlisted applicants.
