2006PEYOTE BIRD DESIGNS. Santa Fe, NM. PRODUCT MANAGER

Manage a six-person team, but up to fifteen people in the preparation and quality control department of a fast paced and prolific jewelry manufacturer. Everyday meet deadlines and rigid standards for production and shipping, facilitating cost effective measures for timely delivery of large wholesale accounts. Am a liaison between clients, our Hong Kong office and our factories overseas. This is a hub position where my command of communication, fast thinking and organization is integral in allowing Peyote Bird Designs to function smoothly and maintain a steady growth in profits.

2005INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS. Santa Fe, NM. CERAMICS INSTRUCTOR/ADVANCED STUDIO

Assisted Karita Coffey in introduction of pottery throwing techniques.

Beginning throwing consisted of throwing, altering, trimming and texturing pottery. Hands on instruction, lecturing and demonstrations were utilized to encourage and motivate.

2004INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS. Santa Fe, NM. CERAMICS INSTRUCTOR/ADVANCED STUDIO

Developed and taught an introductory class on glaze and clay components. Instructed how and what chemical elements combine, through lecture and hands on tests, then low-fired tests in an oxidation atmosphere. Lectured on high-fired chemical composition and structure in firing. Gave control information on how to use chemicals safely, and direction on how to protect ones body. Curriculum was developed under supervision of Karita Coffey. Objective to provide the ceramic student with the technical knowledge necessary for achieving his or her artistic vision.

2004INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS. Santa Fe, NM. CERAMIC TECHNICIAN

Tested, fixed and/or connected ball mill, three electric kilns, two Envirovents, two computer-firing controls, large pugmill, and two electric wheels. Fired gas kiln to temperature and constructed four worktables. Worked with art department, faculty and technicians providing efficient comfortable working strategies. Trained students to maintain and use equipment safely.

2002-2004SANTA FE CLAY. Santa Fe, NM.TEACHER

Taught multiple seven-week hand-building classes per year for beginner and advanced level students. Designed each class anew to allow repeat students. Each session covered construction techniques for functional and sculptural ceramics. Elements stressed in each class included perspective, imagination, editing, safety, technique, craftsmanship, critiquing, philosophy, and having fun.

2002-2006RAINBOW GATE POTTERY/FLAT EARTH TILE. Santa Fe, NM. PRODUCTION ASSISTANT.

Rainbow Gate-Integral in smooth operation of work place, providing assistance in workers relations. Managed glazing and firing area, setting a high standard for finished product. Having experience in all aspects of pottery’s production provided insulation in hiring and firing of employees. Slipcast, painted, glazed, fired, packed, and shipped pottery when needed. Trained new employees.

Flat Earth Tile-Helped develop environment for efficiency in production, promoted work ethics and gave direction in cutting production costs. Instructed manager in ceramic production. Managed tile production to its completion. Communicated with customers and owners incorporating individual needs to produce total satisfaction in finished product. Created screens for photo emulsion reproduction of images. Silk-screened field and image tiles. Designed tile vistas for fire places, bathrooms, and kitchens. Drafted diagram for installation and packed each shipment.

2002UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN. TEACHER OF RECORD/BEGINNING CERAMICS

Created curriculum for ceramics class stressing traditional structure in technique and design, while emphasizing openness for different perspectives. Introduced sculptural, figural, and vessel making utilizing the wheel and hand building techniques.

2001UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN. TEACHER OF RECORD/INTERMEDIATE DRAWING

Taught drawing course designed to balance technique with formal and aesthetic issues, stressing different visual orientations of the world around them. This class built drawing experience by utilizing class time and providing sketchbooks for out of class work.

2000UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN. TEACHERS ASSISTANT/VISUAL LITERACY ART FOUNDATION

This intensive art class integrating sculpture, architecture, and design projects provided experience working with students from all the different studio art areas. Helped with class participation and worked individually and in a group setting with over 200 students.

2000-2002UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA –LINCOLN. GRADUATE TECHNICIAN

Shared responsibilities and led a team effort in creating a smooth flowing work place. At different times responsible for stocking dry materials, mixing class glazes and maintaining a clean glaze room. Designed a soft brick Roman arch wood kiln and directed its construction. Welded the wood kilns frame and built a venturi manifold burner system. Developed and directed a kiln meeting system to facilitate the firing of kilns for a department of nine graduates and three faculty. Repaired electrical systems in wheels and kilns and replaced and repaired elements. Responsible for firing all class work for a semester.

2000SHELDON MEMORIAL ART MUSEUM. Lincoln, NE. FAMILY DAY VOLUNTEER

Developed and ran a six hour day with over 200 children of all ages making pinch pottery. Labeled each child’s piece, fired them and returned them to be distributed.

1999CARBONDALE CLAY CENTER. Carbondale, CO. INSTRUCTOR

Taught a mixed learning level class how to use the wheel as a clay tool. Created the curriculum and instructed 10 students, working with them together and individually for 12 weeks. Volunteered time and experience to the center working with Diane Kenny, Peggy Malloy and Beth Robinson to make a fun and profitable working environment.

1998-1999SUSTAINABLE SETTINGS. Woody Creek, CO. INTERN

Major role in starting a working and learning program for Brook LeVan and family, involving pottery and apprenticeships with K-8th grade school. Helped define program by organizing and participating in a 3-day environmental summit created to establish and maintain the work place by brainstorming problem/solutions with Doug Casebeer and Clary Illian. Researched and developed a pottery program, created infrastructure and inventory, and manufactured and developed pottery line. Remodeled an adobe studio, using environmentally safe materials. Constructed a two chamber cross draft kiln and facilitated a weekend kiln building workshop. Also created and conducted several apprenticeships with kindergarten and first grade students and one 4-month apprenticeship with an 8th grade student.

1996-1997RAINBOW GATE POTTERY. Santa Fe, NM. PRODUCTION MANAGER

Responsible for smooth operation of a twelve-employee dinnerware company founded by Allan Walter and Jenny Lind. In charge of ware production, painting of pieces, glazing, firing, and packaging. Followed all orders to their completion, and ensured customer satisfaction. Trained and supervised new employees increasing productivity and sales.

1996SANTA FE LIGHTS. Santa Fe, NM. PRODUCTION POTTER

Managed slip casting and hump mold light production. Produced molds, sprayed and fired lights. Managed all aspects of customer service utilizing a computer for both retail and wholesale accounts.

1993-1996LUCHO SOLER FINE CERAMICS. Santa Fe, NM. JIGGER OPERATOR/POTTER

Threw pottery on a jigger/jolly machine. Slip cast mugs and pitchers. Extensive experience in producing clay from scratch and mixing glazes. Was introduced to pit firing methods Lucho Soler learned on the San Ildefonso Pueblo and Peruvian pottery coil building techniques he learned at home.
