Math II (H) Extra Credit Projects
Special Lines in the TriangleName:______
This project will involve constructing special segments in triangles using GeoGebra. The purpose is to help students visually represent theorems regarding special segments of a triangle in order to better understand concepts.
You need to download GeoGebra from
Students will do the following:
- Construct each special segment in a triangle; the special segments include midsegments, medians, and altitudes.
- Label segments, angles, points, lengths, and angle measures to justify the constructions.
- Explain step-by-step how to construct these points of concurrency.
- Understand and state each theorem for the appropriate special segment.
The final project must have:
- One triangle constructed that contains three medians. All appropriate segment lengths must be labeled to receive full credit.
- One triangle constructed that contains three altitudes. All appropriate segment lengths and angle measures must be labeled to receive full credit.
- These constructions must be on separate pages with detailed instructions stating how they were constructed. Each page will have a title; the title will be the type of special segment.
- Each point of concurrency must be labeled. Do not change the color of any points created.
The grading will occur as follows:
10 pts – Midsegmentsof a triangle constructed correctly. All lengths and points labeled appropriately.
10 pts – Medians of a triangle constructed correctly. All lengths and points labeled appropriately.
10 pts – Altitudes of a triangle constructed correctly. All points and angles labeled appropriately.
30pts – Each description of the step-by-step process used to construct the special segments (10 pts per triangle).
10 pts – Correct grammar is used throughout the project.
5 pts – Each page is titled appropriately.
5 pts – Each point of concurrency is labeled (centroid and orthocenter)
This project needs to be turned in by March 25, 2015!!!!
