Math Grade 2: Units 1-6 Everyday Mathematics

**Include the Process Standards # 1-8 when teaching lessons for as they apply to the EDM units.

**Use “Open Responses” found at the end of all units. Teacher can choose to model the process of these problems with student involvement. Supplement multi-step problems.

**Use information for Grade 3 on the DOE to supplement 2nd grade standards.

Units 1 & 2: Foundational Lessons of routines and lay building blocks of number sense, computation of addition and subtraction and place value. All lessons should be taught with fidelity.

Supplement Ordinal Numbers (Standard 2. N.S.4)

Unit 3: Place Value, Money and Time: All lessons need to be taught. However, the focus of Lessons 3.7 & 3.8 involve counting money and also, making change. Making Change is not a 2nd grade standard, so teachers can adapt it as needed.

Supplement Standard 2.MA.2.5: Solving Real World Problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals of the hour and ½ hour.

Unit 4: Addition and Subtraction: Teach all lessons, but note: Lessons 4.5 & 4.6 “Estimating Costs in a Shopping Activity” will be taught, but are not critical standards for 2nd grade.

Supplement Add & Subtract within 1000 (2.CA.4)

Unit 5: 2 & 3 Dimensional Shapes: NOTE: Lesson 5.8 “Symmetry” is not a 2nd grade standard

Unit 6: Whole Number Operations and Number Stories: Teach all lessons: 2 & 3 step story problems are critical. NOTE: Lesson 6.1 is addition of 3 or more addends and is not a 2nd grade. Lesson 6.10 is division and is not a 2nd grade standard.

Everyday Math Units 7-12

The below units have certain lessons that can be taken out, combined, or briefly touched on.

Unit 7:

Take out: 7.3, 7.6, and 7.7

Unit 8:

Combine: 8.4 and 8.5

Take out: 8.6

Briefly touch on: 8.7

Unit 9:

Take out: 9.3 and 9.9

Briefly touch on: 9.4 and 9.5

Unit 10:

Briefly touch on: 10.3, 10.4, and 10.10

Take out: 10.7, 10.9, and 10.11

Unit 11:

Briefly touch on: 11.3 and 11.7

Take out: 11.5, 11.8, and 11.9

Unit 12:

Review and Practice, if you reach the unit.
