Math Department Rationale for the Cumulative Re-Test Policy: Mathematics Is by Its Very

Math Department rationale for the cumulative re-test policy: Mathematics is by its very nature a cumulative topic. Without a proper foundation the opportunity for success is greatly inhibited. Therefore we have adopted a policy offering students time to master material and recapture points on their test grade while not falling behind as the class moves forward. While this policy is different from others, it has proven to be beneficial to the students in numerous ways. Mainly the policy allows the student and teacher time to work together to truly learn the material and be able to recall it into the future of the course as well as courses following the current course. This cumulative approach is beneficial in preparing the students for EOC tests as the state moves toward STAAR.

Algebra I

  • A Cumulative re-test will be given over previously tested material only
  • The Cumulative re-test will be taken by all students and the grade will be weighted the same as all other test grades
  • If the Cumulative re-test is passed, then 5 points will be added to all previous passing test scores
  • If the Cumulative re-test is passed, all previous failing test grades will be changed to 70
  • If the Cumulative re-test is NOT passed, then
  • any previous passing test grade remains the same,
  • any previous test failed by a grade less than the Cumulative re-test will be replaced with the Cumulative re-test grade
  • any previous test grade greater than the Cumulative re-test will remain the same

Special Topics

  • Test Corrections for a 70 can be done for each failing test grade
  • Corrections must be done with-in 3 days of test return
