Course description: Algebra II is the study of systems of equations, matrices, quadratic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, polynomials, rational polynomial functions, sequences and series, and trigonometric ratios and functions.This course is based on the current Minnesota Standards.

Learning Strategies:

  • Lecture, Discovery, Inquiry, and Modeling Activities and Discussion
  • Note taking and class participation are keys to success
  • Homework Checks, Quizzes, Group Work, Tests and Cumulative Exams
  • Assessments are written to be completed in one class period (extra time will not be given).
  • FREE help outside of class will be available in the media center and after school. Information will be given about these opportunities by your teacher. Always feel comfortable to ask for help!

Materials:

  • Algebra II, McDougal Littell (checked out by teacher)
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Spiral Notebook (graph paper notebook is recommended)
  • Technology (Recommend a Scientific and Graphing Calculator)
  • The graphing calculator can be a great tool for visualizing and exploring functions along with writing and utilizing some basic programs
  • A graphing calculator can be an advantage, however, no student will be able to rely on a calculator to be successful
  • Calculator choice is a personal preference, but the instructor will model activities with the TI-83 plus or TI-84 plus by Texas Instruments.
  • Missed Work:
  • Students will be allowed 2 days per every day of excusedabsences to make up work including tests. The instructor reserves the right to lower credit for worked missed as a result of unexcused absences.

Grading Scale:

Classroom expectations are available in Mr. Johnson’s, Mr. Krahn’s and Mrs. Wilcox’s classrooms and will be visited throughout the year. Students will be expected to maintain academic integrity throughout the school year.

Copying and cheating will not be accepted, and will not be tolerated. It will result in a zero for the assignment/test and the principal will be notified as well as a call home.
