Tutorials:

Tutorial are available on Tuesdays from 3:45 pm until 5:00 pm without appointment needed. Monday and Wednesday tutorials are possible if the student contacts the teacher, face to face or via e-mail at least 24 hours in advance. Students attending tutorials must come with specific questions or areas of concern and be willing to work independently, in small groups, or at times using online modules.

Homework:

Homework will be distributed as weekly packets that students are to work on throughout the week and submit on Friday as a single grade. The activities within the packet will include review, current topics, and can be complete with the assistance of online resources, peer help, or parent help.

Late work: Ten points will be deducted each day that an assignment is late. This is a Fulmore Middle School policy.

District/State Assessment(s):

District assessments are given two times during the 8th grade year for all subjects. The expectation is for all PreAP students to perform above 80% on these assessments, which is considered a Commended Performance, Level III. Students not meeting the 80% expectation will need to begin interventions to help close gaps in knowledge before the State assessment, STAAR, which will occur in late spring of 2016.

Classroom Behavior: All rules and policies of Fulmore Middle School will be observed and followed in Room 100 and while under the supervision of Mr. Sikes. Failure to follow these rules will result in a warning of the violation, detention assigned after 2nd violation, parent contact after the 3rd, and discipline referral after the 4th. The rules established are made to support Fulmore’s “5 P’s” mindset where all Falcons will be Punctual, Productive, Polite, Prepared, and Positive.

In Case of Absence: If your child is absent, call 414-3439 before 10:00 AM to report the absence. Please send a note for the main office with your child when (s)he returns explaining the absence and giving us a phone number to call if we have any questions. A permit to re-enter class will be written. The only way an absence can be excused is with an official note! Important: more than four absences per semester may result in a student not getting high school credit for classes. We need our Falcons here EVERY DAY!

Substitute Teacher Days: As the Math Department Chair at Fulmore, I need to attend district meetings regarding curriculum and implementation at least once a six weeks. When a substitute teacher is present, I expect my students to treat the substitute with the highest degree of respect and follow directions and complete assignments to the best of their ability. Failure to do so with result in an immediate parent contact and appropriate actions to remedy undesired behavior when a substitute is present.

I have read the 2015-2016 Math 8 Syllabus and understand what is expected from me in order to be successful in Mr. Sikes’ class.
