50 points - Group Work, Selected Homework Problems

125 points - Final Exam

500 points Total Possible

Letter grades will be assigned as follows:

A: 90-100% B: 80-89% C: 70-79% D: 60-69% F: below 60%

Homework

Homework problems will be suggested for each section of the text covered. Selected homework problems may be collected and graded at regular intervals. It is very important that you complete homework on a regular basis. This is a rigorous course and you should expect to devote a minimum of 10 hours per week outside of class on homework and study. I am available during office hours and by appointment. The MathLearningCenter, Lewis 212, provides a comfortable study area as well as capable student tutors who can answer your questions.

Policy On Make-up Exams/Attendance

Notify Professor Hayward in advance if you a have a problem with an exam date. Missing an exam without notice will result in a grade of zero for that exam. Any student missing more than three classes may be dropped. Most group/classwork cannot be completed outside of class meetings.

Important Note

I strongly encourage cooperative learning in and out of the classroom since it benefits both those who are having trouble with a particular concept and those that are able to explain the concept to another. However, when it comes to exams, quizzes and individual assignments, the work must be entirely your own. Cheating and plagiarism is a violation of college ethics and such actions will result in disciplinary measures including dismissal from the class, probation and a possible expulsion from OCC.
