MATH 10 COURSE OUTLINE 2017 - 2018

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Mathematics 9.

Course Outline:

Mathematics 10 will be two semesters long, a minimum of 220 instructional hours, and will address both the Math 10 curriculum outcomes and the additional curriculum outcomes. All students enrolled in Mathematics 10 will write the Nova Scotia Mathematics 10 examination in June 2018.

Mathematics 10 is comprised of four units:

-Measurement (50-55 hours)

-Algebra and Number (50-55 hours)

-Relations and Functions (70-75 hours)

-Financial Mathematics (40-45 hours)

This course is designed to prepare students for Math 11 or the IB Mathematics SL course offered as a part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

Assessment:

Various forms of formative and summative assessments will be given. These forms of assessment will provide immediate feedback on the students’ progress and the attainment of outcomes as set forth in the curriculum guide. The assessments will include daily homework, assignments, exit slips, quizzes, tests and exams.

Mathematics courses require commitment! Students must take responsibility for achieving the outcomes. Students need to make sure that they keep up with their work and seek help early if they encounter difficulties. Extra help is available after school at 2:30 in room 2072. It is your responsibility to ensure you are comfortable with your understanding of the concepts.

Final Assessment:

Assignments/Quizzes / 10% / 20%
Mid-Term Evaluation / 10%
Provincial Final Exam / 20%

Missed Tests, Quizzes and Assignments

Test, quizzes and assignments are extremely important tools to evaluate your understanding in mathematics. It is asked that you take every step to write tests/quizzes on the day they are assigned and that assignments are passed in on the day they are due. If you know you are not going to be present on the day a test, quiz or assignment is due, please notify me or the school immediately and make other arrangements. If a test is missed and the absence is excused, you will be asked to write the test when you return.

A Programs Presentation Evening will be held on September 21st, from 6:00-7:30p.m. Mid-semester report cards will be given out on November 23rd. Parent teacher interviews will be held on November 30th.
