Materials for 2017 Residency Week

Tuesday: River Works with Rob Hinchley

This workshop offers artists the opportunity to further develop their artistic skills. Artists will

explore creative approaches with plein air painting and printmaking. Nature and the

River will be the theme for developing unique visual art works. Artists will use the painting

medium of their choice

Specific Supplies / General Supplies
*painting supports - canvas, masonite boards, or watercolour paper (as large as you like and as many as you wish)
*Plexiglas 8”x10”
*Canson XL Sketch pads, or XL recycled pads, 9"x12" or larger, smooth paper 65LB-90Lb. (the kind that could be removed from a pad/sketchbook)
*Masa Paper or smooth light weight printmaking paper. / *charcoal, other drawing materials
*painting supplies, brushes, other painting tools, paper towels, water container
*acrylic gel medium
*Masking tape
*portable easel or small folding table/ chair

Wednesday: Mark Making Workshop with Karen Mackay

This workshop will help artists find their individual/intuitive marks in their art. Personal marks, intuitive marks help bring uniqueness to our visual dimension and aids in making our art unique. Intuitive, natural movements and abnormal movements will be demonstrated and applied to the painting. Traditional and non-traditional tools will also be highlighted.

Specific Supplies / General Supplies
*Printmaking Paper - Rives BFK or equivalent - Full sheet
*11 x 14 canvas
*Acrylic Paints -soft body and hard body - red and black are essential and your choice of other colours.
*India Ink black
*Matt board cut up into 1 inch squares / *Gesso
*Matt medium - preferably Golden
*Flat and round brushes 1/4, 1/2 and ¾”
*Water container
*Palette or palette paper
*Palette knives
*Tools you have on hand that make interesting marks
*Painters removable tape - green or blue 1/2 inch size

Thursday: Shrine Assemblages with Kate Strickland.

We will be creating small pocket-shrine-inspired assemblages using smoked oyster tins as our containers and a broad interpretation of “The Sacred” as our guiding theme. At the end of the

workshop we will mount these in a grid pattern as one individual piece of work.

Specific Supplies / General Supplies
*Clean smoked oyster tins if you have any. (We have lots of extras)
*Objects and photos/images/text that are meaningful to you and fit with your interpretation of the theme “The Sacred” (keep in mind that we will be working within a size of 2.5” x 4”)
*scraps of tissue paper (coloured and/or white)
*metallic acrylic paint of your choosing *metallic markers (if you have any) *embellishments of your choosing (thread, beads, feathers, shells, buttons, metal bits, micro beads, wire, etc
*smaller tins or containers that might fit into another 4”x 2.5” container (only if you have them) / *Old flat brushes (med and small) for applying mediums and glues
*scissors
* x-acto knife
* small awl (if you have one) *tweezers (if you have one); *chain-nose or flat-nose pliers (only if you have them)
* gesso
*acrylic paint;
*mediums (glossy/matte) and/or mod podge, heavy gel medium
*glue gun/sticks (if you have them)
