Prelude to Mathew 24

Mat 23:1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: Mat 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. Mat 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Mat

11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall

find restunto your souls. Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Luke 15:4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the

ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? Luke 15:5 And

when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. Luke 15:6 And when he

cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me;

for I have found my sheep which was lost.

Acts 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which

neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? Acts 15:11 But we believe that through

the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Gal 4:30 … what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the

bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Gal 4:31 So then, brethren, we are

not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the

liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of

bondage. Gal 5:2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you

nothing. Gal 5:3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do

the whole law. Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by

the law; ye are fallen from grace.

The heavy burdens carried upon the shoulders are the law and the responsibility of the head of he household in requiring the keeping of the laws to their whole household, which is grievous. But with Christ we rest in grace and not in the law, therefore his burden is light

Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, (for wearing slips of Scripture texts) and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Num 15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the

borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the

borders a ribband of blue: Num 15:39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look

upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not

after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: Num 15:40 That

ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God. Num 15:41 I am the

LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your

God.

Mat 23:6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, Mat 23:7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. Mat 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. Mat 23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.Mat 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. Mat 23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. Mat 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. Mat 23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

2 Pet 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as

they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2 Pet 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the

people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable

heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2

Pet 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall

be evil spoken of. 2 Pet 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make

merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation

slumbereth not. 2 Pet 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell,

and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 2 Pet 2:5 And spared not

the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood

upon the world of the ungodly; 2 Pet 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes

condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live

ungodly; 2 Pet 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 2 Pet

2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul

from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) 2 Pet 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly

out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 2 Pet 2:10

But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government.

Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 2 Pet 2:11 Whereas

angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the

Lord. 2 Pet 2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of

the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 2 Pet 2:13 And

shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time.

Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with

you; 2 Pet 2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable

souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 2 Pet 2:15 Which have

forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who

loved the wages of unrighteousness; 2 Pet 2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass

speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet. 2 Pet 2:17 These are wells without

water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 2

Pet 2:18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the

flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 2 Pet

2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom

a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 2 Pet 2:20 For if after they have escaped

the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are

again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 2 Pet

2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they

have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 2 Pet 2:22 But it is

happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and

the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Mat 23:14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

Luke 8:5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was

trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

Mat 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

Mat 23:16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! Mat 23:17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? Mat 23:18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. Mat 23:19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? Mat 23:20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. Mat 23:21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. Mat 23:22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Mat 23:24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

diulizo; to strain out:--strain at

konops a mosquito (from its stinging proboscis):--gnat

katapino; to drink down, i.e. gulp entire (lit. or fig.):--devour, drown, swallow (up)

 Heb 11:29 By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying

to do were drowned.

 Rev 12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up

the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

 1 Pet 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about,

seeking whom he may devour:

Lev 11:4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that divide the

hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.

Camel,  beast of burden can carry as much as 990lbs,  gestation periods of 13 months

 life span of a camel is 40  can go 5-7 days with little or no food and water  preferred food of

dates, grass, wheat and oats  can easily survive on thorny scrub bones, seeds, dried leaves, or

even its owner's tent!  capable of storing water in its body tissue, common beast of burden

Mat 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. Mat 23:26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Mat 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. Mat 23:28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Mat 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, Mat 23:30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. Mat 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. Mat 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: Mat 23:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Mat 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. Mat 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Mat 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to show him the buildings of the temple. Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
