Communications Intern Position

The Connecticut Office of State Ethics (OSE) has an excellent opportunity for Political Science students wishing to pursue a career in the field of government communications. With exposure to public relations, legal, and policy matters, this student will acquire skills that will allow him/her to begin to build a foundation for a promising career.

Located across from the State Capitol in Hartford, the OSE offers a small office with a friendly atmosphere, hands-on and substantive training, and the chance to work autonomously and take ownership of projects.

Responsibilities:

· Monitor major regional news sources for stories pertaining to the Office of State Ethics and related matters

· Assist in drafting and distributing written press statements and press advisories/media alerts

· Research public official financial statements and/or lobbyist financial reports for any significant trends; write reports on findings

· May assist in tracking relevant legislative activity; follow bills of interest to the Office and prepare short summaries of any activity

· Assist in development and dissemination of monthly electronic newsletters to the regulated community

· Assist in production logistics and development of training seminars for legislators, public officials and lobbyists

· Assist in the development of education/training materials for conferences and workshops (presentations, brochures, guides, handouts, etc.)

· Assist OSE staff in Web site management (content, arrangement, updates, etc.)

· Research potential public and private partnership opportunities to strengthen the “culture of ethics” in Connecticut

· Other projects as determined by the interests of the Intern and needs of the Office
