Descriptions:

A study of the roles established by gender differences in present-day societies.

AIMS

Specific:

  • Understanding male and female roles developed in primitive societies.
  • Understanding male and female roles developed in different present-day societies.
  • Understanding intrinsic biological factors to sexual roles in contemporary societies.
  • Understanding and analysing the social, educational and cultural factors to said roles.
  • Analysing how religion influences in perpetuating sexual roles.
  • Understanding what role science has played in justifying the roles.
  • Understanding what role education can play in changing perspectives with regards to sexual roles.

General:

  • Understanding and explaining difficulties involved in inherent social transformation.
  • Developing a critical vision to how transformation occurs in contemporary societies.
  • Analysing the motives and environment leading to the changing of roles in contemporary societies.
  • Rigorously analysing and interpreting the set texts.
  • Critically revising historical theories.
  • Appreciating the inherent difficulties in establishing relationship hypotheses between the different presented theories and ideologies.
  • The ability to relate information and set out knowledge.
  • Producing and presenting an individual research project.

III. Evolutionist Theories and its Feminist Revisions

  1. The Darwinist hypothesis: man-the hunter, woman-the gatherer.
  2. Scientific reflections against Darwinism: Emilia Pardo Bazán.

IV. The Issue of Values in Science

  1. Feminism and philosophy of science.

  • The ability for critical thought and holistic vision will be assessed.
  • Originality and the contribution and integration to knowledge will be assessed in the dissertation.
