MASTER’S OF SCIENCE IN TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT

The ongoing need for efficient planned and managed safe transportation systems, inclusive of roads and highways right here in the United States have largely influenced my decision to pursue studies in Transportation Planning and Management. As an ardent professional, my journey towards this Master’s Degree in Transportation Planning and Management has been one of tremendous learning both on the personal and professional angles.

My strive for higher education could not have been satisfied unless the pinnacle of my dreams of acquiring a Master’s of Science degree in Transportation Planning and Management was pursued. With this degree, I will have an impact on the development of the transportation system’s efficiency, safety and its environmental sustainability within the United States. I am up for the challenge of being a role model, not only to my son and siblings, but also within the United States. My desire to be involved in the transportation industry is one of my primary rationales for acquiring a Master’s of Science degree in Transportation Planning and Management. I sincerely desire the opportunity to learn from and contribute to this principal industry which can be done with the assistance granted to me by your organization. It is my intention to break ground as a woman in this arena. I have no reservation that I am capable of achieving my goal especially taking this bold step of pursuing my dream of being a fulltime time student while simultaneously being a fulltime mother. I will be one of the many who have come before me and those of which who will come after me to transform the transportation industry through the advancement of women and can encourage them to further their careers as leaders.

During this past year of actively attaining my degree, I gravitated towards finding ways to help alter Traffic Congestion. Upon attending a class: Fundamental of Transportation, one of the many core courses scheduled on the curriculum at Texas Southern University, I was exposed to a very notable author, Anthony Downs and his book, Still Stuck in Traffic. It heightened my interest in figuring out various ways in which congestion could be diluted and factors which have affected the growth of congestion over the years. This area has become a topic of concern which has existed for many decades; Downs suggests that it cannot be eliminated. I believe technology, with consideration of continued improved simulation applications such as traffic software like INTEGRATION, the Cube, DYNASMART and OREMS, offers greater potential for improvement. Addressing congestion has also inspired me to base my thesis entitled: The Application of Traffic Software. Will it Advance the System’s Efficiency to Dilute Congestion in Nairobi?

In pursuing a degree in Transportation and Planning Management I am convinced that I will set standards for not only my son but also inspire women who are not knowledgeable of the Transportation industry. I will also be able to contribute my expertise to its full advantage within the United States having achieved my dream of venturing into Transportation Planning industry.
