The 2nd MA qualifier race is scheduled for January 31stat Mt Greylock High School. It will be a 7K classic race

The J2 Championshipis for those skiers born in 1994 and 1995 who are Massachusetts residents or who are attending school in Mass. It will be held in JacksonNew Hampshire March 5th – 7th. The team will be staying at Eagle Mountain in Jackson.

The Eastern High School Championship is for those currently in 9th to 12th grade, who are Massachusetts residents or who are attending school in Mass. Post-graduates are not eligible. The EHS will be held in Gunstock, NHon March12th – 14th. The team will be staying at The Margate in Laconia.

The cost per team member will be $325 for each team . The fee includes two-nights lodging, two breakfasts, two dinners, racing fees and team jacket (J2 team) or sweatshirt (EHS team). Team membership will be announced after the 1/31qualifier at which time team forms and fee must be submitted. A NENSA membership is also required to participate at the J2 and EHS Championships

A limited number of need-based scholarships are available for the J2/EHS athletes. If the cost of the event(s) is prohibitive to an athlete’s participation, please contact Graham Taylor for a scholarship application. Contact Graham as well if you would like to make a tax deductible donation to the scholarship fund (Eastern Amateur Ski Educational Foundation, EASEF) which provides grants to developing skiers of all ages and disciplines. Contributions may not be designated for individuals, but may be designated by discipline – in this case cross country skiing.

The top 20 J2 boys and girls in Massachusetts are appointed to the J2 team based on the combined times of both qualifiers. The top 24 EHS boys and 24 girls are appointed to the EHS team based on the combined time of both qualifiers. Qualification for the teams requires participation at the 1/24 freestyle race and the 1/31 classic races. There may be discretionary picks. If a racer can not race he/she MUST petition the appellate board in writing PRIOR to the race they will miss for an exception to be considered.

Skier seeding on the team will be based on race results from the entire season in each discipline, skier’s health & training commitment leading into the championship events, racing conditions and is not based on qualification results.
