MASERATI’S COOL ALTERNATIVE TO SUMMER’S HEAT

Maserati is offering a cool alternative to summer’s heat – learning to drive the legendary Italian car maker’s supercars on snow and ice in St Moritz, the renowned Swiss ski resort.

And, as if driving the Maserati GranTurismo and Quattroporte under unique conditions was not enough, the Maserati Snow Driving Course also coincides with the Polo World Cup on Snow, in which Maserati is fielding a team, and a celebration of the region’s finest food. With a history of more than 25 years, the St Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow attracts the cream of the world’s Polo players, including in 2010, Australia’s Glen Gilmore and New Zealand’s John Paul Clarkin.

The course is held on the frozen circuit in St Moritz and nearby snow covered roads, which enables participants to be able to drive the Maserati Quattroporte and GranTurismo under the most demanding and difficult conditions. Also, by using a wide frozen circuit, the driving course is free of hazards, allowing the drivers to safely test their limits. Of course, surrounded by the Alps and the picturesque town of St Moritz, it is also a venue of unique beauty.

Building previous Maserati Winter Driving Courses, the 2010 programme adds a new High Performance programme to develop and hone the skills that drivers learn in the original Sport programme. The Sport programme covers all the essentials of snow and ice driving, culminating with slalom driving. The High Performance programme adds circuit driving on ice with its requirements for choosing the right line through ice covered corners, braking from speed and making quick starts on zero grip surfaces.

“Driving thoroughbred sports cars and performance luxury saloons on a frozen roads and tracks may sound as odd as, well, playing Polo on sheet ice,” says Edward Butler, General Manager for Maserati in Australia and New Zealand. “But just as the unique World Cup on Snow enables the most skilled riders in the world to demonstrate the true depth of their ability in the most difficult of conditions, the Maserati Driving Courses on Snow reveal the true ability of Maserati’s cars. The fact is that, such is the level of technology in the GranTurismo and Quattroporte, they can not only cope with the snow and ice, they can also positively revel in these conditions. For the drivers these courses enable them to develop new skills that will be of real benefit in normal road conditions.”

The Maserati Driving Courses on Snow start on 27 January 2010 with four courses coinciding with the Polo World Cup on Snow, followed by another five courses running from 31 January after the Polo events. Prices for the course, which include accommodation in St Moritz, use of the training cars, meals and exclusive Maserati clothing, start from 1875 Swiss Francs.
