Second Meeting- October 16, 2012
- Legislative visit
o Contact in UB Government Relations Department
§ Heather will set up follow-up meeting with Department to make sure we are on same page with event we are trying to organize
o Dates suggested- (Feb 5, 6, 7)
§ Date should be nailed down by December and then we can begin to do outreach to schools for position paper and to membership
o Angie Hovatter- will be in charge of position paper prep (she will need additional assistance with final draft)
o Who should speak on behalf of financial aid administrators?
§ Looking at Rich-AACC, Barb-Stevenson, J.W.- UMES (Beth will be contacting)
o Should we have a student speak as well?
§ Each person speaking will be asked to recruit/ask a student to speak as well
o Legislative visit is going to be a mix/mingle and panelist type event
- Counselor Workshops
o Update from Beth McSweeney
§ Sites- Allegany, Stevenson, CCBC, Wor-Wic (?), Montgomery(?), Hartford, Bowie/PGCC
§ Beth will be reaching out to sites this week to follow-up as a final confirmation of their participation in the event
§ Beth will also be reaching out to guidance counselor supervisors again to inform them of event
§ Specific dates will be decided upon soon
- Fall Conference 2012
o Service Project- Pocomoke Elementary School---Nursing Unit
o E-mails have been sent out to tri-state listserv---follow up email will be sent right before conference
o Will have boxes and jar collection (for money donations)
o Heather will drop off donations to school after Fall Conference
- New York City Bus Trip
o Update on Numbers from Pat
o So far we have 20 people signed up looking to get 40-45
o Listserv message will go out to recruit more individuals
- You can afford college- Maryland Public Television
