MEMORANDUM FOR DISTRIBUTION

SUBJECT: Maryland Officer Candidate School Application Procedures for Units
1. There are soldiers in your unit who are interested in and qualify for admission into the Maryland Army National Guard Officer Candidate School. This memorandum is a tool to help unit commanders, Readiness NCOs and S-1s to best serve these soldiers and help them take the first step toward a career as a commissioned officer.

IDT/AT Training Schedule

  1. General admission requirements for Officer Candidate School

Completed Basic Training and AIT (Basic only for OCS Enlistment Option)

GT Score: Minimum of 110

College: Minimum of 60 credits (must have 90 credits to receive commission)

Age: 18 to 39 years at time of commission

U.S. Citizen

Secret Security Clearance at time of commission

Meet physical requirements under AR 40-501, Chapter 2

Pass APFT and meet Height / Weight standards under AR 600-9

3. Company / Battery responsibilities:

Assist applicant in preparation of OCS Application Form

Company / Battery Commander assesses leadership potential and signs Application Form

Unit enrolls applicant in OCS Phase 0 – School Code: 994 Course: OCS Class: 046

Forward DA Form 705 (APFT Card) and Weight Control documentation to 70th Regiment

Forward Medical / Dental Records (original) to 70th Regiment

Provide logistical support to the applicant (TA-50 and OCIE)

4. Battalion / MSC responsibilities:

Quality control over preparation of OCS Application Form (Incomplete applications will be returned without processing)

Conduct the highly recommended OCS Applicant Screening Board (See enclosed form)

5. All components of the OCS Application Packet that are listed in this memo must arrive at HQ 70th Regiment (LDR) no later than 24 February 2004. The 70th Regiment (LDR) will hold an OCS Selection Board during Phase 0. This board will review each application packet for completeness and content to insure that each applicant meets all of the prerequisites for admission to Phase I of OCS. The recommendations of this board will determine which applicants are enrolled in OCS and which program they will attend.

6. OCS orientation weekend for applicants will be held on 06-07 March 2004.
