SUMMARY OF ROLE

In an increasingly competitive environment it is vital to further build and enhance Waterways Ireland's reputation and profile through the development of a strong brand and the highest quality marketing, communications and public engagement activities.

The Marketing & Digital Officer will provide timely and effective marketing support and respond to the increasing demand for engaging digital content and the effective management of the range of new tourism and recreation products being developed across the waterways network to maximise audiences, encourage access and increase the profile of the organisation.

Responsibilities will include assisting with the delivery of marketing and communications campaigns, creating digital content for online dissemination, analysing campaigns, updating website and social media channels.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • Digital content creation and management.
  • Social media and website support.
  • Research, evaluation and analysis of social media activity.
  • Communications/PR support (external and internal).
  • Marketing campaigns/event management.
  • Design of promotional material for digital and traditional channels.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Digital content creation, social media and website support

  • Develop content for social media campaigns, e-communication and the website; and liaising with product providers in the collation of information and the provision of online promotions.
  • Deliver social media campaigns and day-to-day activities to ensure that Waterways Ireland retains a constant online presence, across sites including but not limited to: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
  • Posting on relevant blogs as needed.
  • Update website with latest news, images, video, new events and key messages, and ensuring all events are added on a regular basis. (Sharepoint platform)
  • Support Waterways Ireland staff in the basics of social media use and training and be the lead marketing contact for any social media related questions.

Research, evaluation and analysis

  • Provision of regular analysis relating to website and social media sessions,pageviews, visitors, etc.
  • Assist the planning and implementation of market research campaigns and analysis of results.
  • Assist in the evaluation of marketing campaigns with a view to improving Waterways Ireland's profile and informing future marketing practice.

Communications/PR support (external and internal)

  • Draft press releases as required; liaise with local press and media for listings, editorial coverage and reviews.
  • Attendance at meetings, capacity building workshops, etc as required.
  • Provide briefing material/information as required.

Marketing campaigns/event management

  • Assist in the preparation for exhibitions, conferences, shows, launches and events.

Other

  • Assist with the compilation of brochures, posters, reports, papers, etc using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite 6 or similar.
  • Provide administrative support as required.
  • Undertake other responsibilities as appropriate to the post, and as agreed with the Senior Administrator.

Eligibility Criteria

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

As a minimum requirement, candidates must have:

Five GCSEs grades A-C (including English and Mathematics) or equivalent, OR Leaving Certificate (Standard / Ordinary level) – 5 grades A-D (including English and Mathematics) or equivalent.

And

Minimum of 1 year experience in digital marketing in a service industry

And

Candidates must have a full current driving licence and / or access to a form of transport which will permit the candidate to meet the requirements of the post in full.

The successful candidate will be required to travel to various locations across Ireland and to attend meetings, workshops, etc which may be outside of normal hours.

Applications will also be considered from candidates with relevant formal qualifications considered to be of an equivalent or higher standard to those stated above.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must also be able to demonstrate the following competencies in their application and / or at interview:

  • Experience of web content creation and management
  • Experience in Digital Marketing (particularly Social Media with detailed knowledge of how the various platforms work eg Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Hootsuite etc).
  • Knowledge/experience of marketing intourism, recreation or the public sector.
  • Proven copy writing experience.
  • Experience in dealing with queries from the media and general public.
  • Be computer literate in the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Have the ability to plan and organise workload to achieve quality results within required timescales.
  • Have the ability to contribute as an effective team member and to support others
  • Have effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deal with internal /external customers with confidence.
  • Have the ability to adapt to a changing environment and to work with minimum supervision.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in app development.
  • Experience of working with print designers, print production and website administrators.
