MARKETING CO-ORDINATOR (FUNDRAISINGPROMOTIONS)

Salary c£21,500per annum + pension

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Coordinate all union fundraising and promotional activity that supports income generation, including sponsorship opportunities, advertising, merchandising and events.

WORK LOCATION

Penrhyn Road Campus in Kingston-upon-Thames, with regular attendance at all campuses around Kingston.

HOURS OF WORK

35 hours per week. This willinclude occasional anti-social hours such as evenings and weekends.

Marketing & Communications Manager

MAIN DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Income Generation

  • Work closely with the Marketing Team and Senior Managers to generate new ideas for increasing income.
  • Lead on the delivery of income targets for key events throughout the year, maximising revenue and student/client experience (for example Freshers’ Fayre, Balls and Awards events).
  • Gain sponsorship for union activities in order to maximise revenue into the organisation.
  • Assist with the generation of commercial income for Union of Kingston Students that supports its mission, vision and values.
  • Use a range of media channels including digital and print to grow advertising revenue with a focus on local and national companies for whom students are a key market
  • Identify opportunities from University and external funding pots and coordinate bids across Union teams
  • Identify and develop new advertising, conferencing and sponsorship opportunities.

Merchandising

  • Manage the selling and promotional strategies for NUS Extra, Union Membership, branded merchandise and entertainment products.
  • Researching and sourcing of new retail lines and promotional opportunities.
  • Maximise the promotion and availability of merchandise by working closely with reception staff, University shops, event coordinator and digital coordinator.
  • Plan and deliver tailoredretail campaigns that help build awareness and drive sales.
  • Manage pricing structures and maintain budgets.

Client Relationships

  • Identify relationships, activities, projects and campaigns that lend themselves to targeted advertising/sponsorship to maximise sales income and opportunities for students.
  • Assist in maintaining a client relationship management system.
  • Develop appropriate sales and advertising packages that build and maintain strong client and agency relationships.
  • Manage production (the design, price lists and content) of the Union’s media packs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with NUS and work in partnership to help improve the sales experience.
  • Develop new business leads and build a database of potential new clients.

General Duties

  • Ensure that statutory and legal obligations are met and Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity and Ethical & Environmental policies are promoted, implemented and complied with in all areas of responsibility.
  • Assist the Marketing & Communications Manager to develop and implement the department’s annual business plan ensuring the team’s goals support delivery of overallUnion plans. Identify and pursue cross department working opportunities.
  • Assist in drafting and monitoring the department’s annual budgets.
  • Provide briefings and training and act as a point of contact for student groups to gain advice on pursuing and receiving sponsorship.
  • In line with the union’s financial schedule and procedures: Keep up to date sales records for all advertising and sponsorship interactions; ensure that advertisers and sponsors receive the relevant evidence to confirm their agreement was fulfilled by the Union; take a proactive approach to ensuring invoices are raised and paid.
  • Evaluate the activities undertaken each year and use for improvement in the following year.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree / diploma or equivalent, ideally in marketing, business or a related field, or equivalent experience in marketing, advertising fund-raising and sponsorship opportunities.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Comprehensive knowledge of sales techniques and practice, including knowledge of income generation models
  • Familiarity with implementing brand guidelines
  • Show ownership and responsibility for initiatives, problems, developments and implementation of decisions.
  • Able to use IT and digital systems effectively.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • Excellent time management and the ability to prioritise and multi task.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and use own initiative.
  • Possesses excellent professional communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Understands and is committed to effective teamwork, creating a culture of trust and respect where people can learn from their mistakes.

  • Experience of working with sponsors, promoters and advertisers to maximise the commercial opportunities of an organisation.
  • Experience of devising sponsorship packages and pricing these to market position and value provided.
