One Semester Course

Textbooks: Glencoe Health

Objectives: 1. To aid students in acquiring a vocabulary of current health

terms.

  1. To give students an appreciation of the importance of a healthy body and mind.
  2. To give students a better understanding of personality, lifestyle, and emotions.
  3. To give students a better understanding of their body’s components.
  4. To aid students in learning about the problems related with substance abuse.
  5. To give students the knowledge they need to prevent accidents and disease.
  6. To give students an appreciation for eating healthy.
  7. To give students the knowledge to make informed health decisions.
  8. To give students the basic skills to recognize and treat first aid emergencies.

Grading: All tests, quizzes, homework, and projects will be given a point total. A cumulative point total will be kept all quarter. Your grade will be the percentage of points you have earned out of the total points possible. The Marian grading scale will determine your letter grade.

Needed Materials: You will need to bring the following materials to class daily:

  1. Notebook- three ring binder to keep notes
  2. Two pocket folder- to keep assignments and returned homework
  3. Blue or Black pen or pencil
  4. Textbook and Workbook
  5. Daily assignments

Policies and Procedures:

  1. Be respectful of the teacher, other students, and the classroom.
  2. Keep your hands to yourself.
  3. Bring all materials to class and take care of all business before class, there will not be any passes out of class.
  4. Raise your hand if you would like to speak.
  5. Be open minded and non-judgmental.
  6. Be in your seat, quiet and prepared for class when the bell rings. Anyone not seated, quiet, and ready will be marked tardy. On the third tardy, a detention will be issued. Every tardy after the third will earn you a detention. On the sixth tardy, you will be locked out and receive a zero for everything due that day.
  7. Do not bring candy, food, or drinks into the classroom.
  8. If you are absent the day of a scheduled test, you must make arrangements with me the day you return to make the test up. If you forget to make arrangements for the test you will be given a ‘zero’ on the test.
  9. If you miss a class, you are responsible to turn in any homework that was due, and get the day’s assignments and note when you return. If you fail to turn in assignments when you return, they will be either late or not accepted.
  10. All homework will be collected at the beginning of class.

Anything turned in after I have collected the homework will be

counted late.

  1. Late assignments will be accepted one day after they are due for

half credit only! If assignments are not turned in one day after

they are due, they will not be accepted at all. No exceptions!

  1. I dismiss class and not the bell.
