Fundraising Manager–Scotland
Terms and Conditions

INTRODUCTION

At Place2Be we know that life is tough for many children. Like nine-year old Luke who was having trouble coping after his dad died, like ten-year old Mandy whose mum often leaves her on her own and has to wear dirty clothes to school or like four-year old Rik who gets into trouble by acting out the violence he’s seen at home.

Place2Be is an award-winning charity that works inside over 170 primary and secondary schools across the UK providing mental health services which are school based, and easily accessible to children, parents and carers. Place2Be also delivers a range of training programmes to build the skills of staff in schools and children’s centres. Place2Be mostly works in areas of high deprivation, reaching a total of 64,000 children. We work with children to remove barriers to learning and prevent more serious mental health and behavioural problems occurring in adolescence and later on adult life. The organisation places counsellors in primary schools to help children tell their stories, explore their feelings and build their coping mechanisms. Place2Be has exciting and ambitious plans to expand our profile and our reach at what is a pivotal time in our history.

The Fundraising Manager will be a key member of the Scottish team and will work closely with the Business Development Manager for Scotland, the National Manager (Scotland) and the UK Head of Fundraising. The post-holder will generate income from the corporate, trust and individual donor sources by securing new supporters, building on existing relationships and in addition will take a lead on further developing the existing range of community fundraising events in Scotland.

Context:

Place2Be has had a presence for the last 12 years in Scotland, originally invited by the then Scottish Executive to deliver a pilot project in two Edinburgh schools (Murrayburn and Balgreen). On the basis of successful results evidencing the positive impact that the service had on the psychological wellbeing of the children supported, NHS Lothian, in partnership with Edinburgh Council (Children and Families) chose to develop a new partnership which would see the organisation provide a service to ten schools in areas of medium and high deprivation in the city.

A significant development strategy has been in place over the last four years, focussed on extending our reach in Scotland and we have, as a result developed a new hub in East Lothian and, through a Glasgow pilot (based in Easterhouse) successfully securing funding for a large hub in Glasgow, which will comprise 15 primary schools. These two developments will have enabled us to broaden our service reach by 200%.

These developments now necessitate an increase in our Scottish infrastructure, resulting in the development of this new post. The postholder will take a lead in securing Scottish funding relationships which will meet a fundraising target of £378k in 2013/2014, rising to £584k in 2014/2015.
